I've opened a case through eBay do I need to open a paypal case too?

I bought something for dp from eBay and paid with paypal immediately.

That was on the 18th of August, it hasn't arrived so I sent a polite message just enquiring if it had been posted yet but have had no reply.

I've now opened a case for item not received on eBay as the seller hasn't answered my messages, so do I need to open a paypal case as well or just the eBay case?

no - you only need to open 1. If you open 2 one will automatically close anyway.

You only need to open either paypal or ebay not both.

i opened a dispute with ebay about a fortnight ago and they sorted it got the refund at the weekend.
