underpaid postage

I ordered a small item from Ebay last week. Today I have a card through the door from Royal Mail saying that there is underpaid postage of 22p and I have to pay this plus a £1 handling charge and collect it from the post office. It must be the ebay item as I am not expecting anything else.

I am a bit annoyed as this increases the cost by about 50%. Should I ask the seller to reimburse me? - and give bad feedback if she doesn't?

Its a bit strange because she is selling multiple similar items, and has good feedback. So she should know what the postage costs. Maybe Royal Mail made a mistake?

ask the seller to reimburse you - I have had this happen couple of times, a decent seller will refund your costs.

Feedback depends on their response

This happened to me - seller was mortified and reimbursed me very quickly.

I would let them know and see what they say. I am guessing from the 22p that they sent it letter and not large letter rate - its easily done. If they use the RM print postage system and select the size first then enter the weight it can change the size back to letter. If you're doing several and aren't worried about proof then it's easy to miss it - and seriously annoying.

The other problem is if the item moves in the envelope. I sell an item in small quantities. If they lay flat in the envelope then it will go letter, if they then bunch up, it won't. We have tried several ways of stopping them bunching, but I always worry that they move afterwards.

As a seller, I would always want to know and would wanto to resolve the issue immediately.

I read this as 'underpant postage'

It was lipgloss which she had put in a normal sized letter envelope and put one 2nd class stamp on. Have messaged her to ask (nicely) for the £1.22 - I'll report back what happens..

probably not much help, and I'm not suggesting/recommending that you do this but - a couple of times I have received this card from the postie and as I wasn't expecting anything important I assumed it was junk mail and didn't waste my petrol and £1+ going to collect. After a while the packet was delivered to me anyway. I have spoke to a few friends about this and they say the same has happened to them.
