Advice re buyer not happy and they say they have had it repaired!!!!!

Ok so dh sold an electrical item that was in full working order. Buyer has stated that there were two issues both cosmetic, dh replied saying these did not affect how the unit worked and were part of used condition. He did say that as he wasn't happy with it he would be happy to do a return. He has now come back saying it didn't work properly and it has cost him £12 to get it fixed and he will be happy if he gets that back.

The unit defo worked, the seller has paid for a repair without speaking to dh, and of course it's a paypal transaction , but worst still dh had decided to start his own acc so as a new seller they are still holding onto the funds.

Advice please, Tia.

the minute they carry out some work on an item they have accepted it and have lost all rights to a refund, partial or otherwise.

if they can't return it in its original condition they are not entitled to a penny - so in short refuse - end of! :)

Fergoose that is exactly what I was hoping you would say. So they'll leave neg but a paypal dispute will find in dh favour?

paypal will not give a partial refund - how much was the item?

of course the buyer could lie to paypal and send you back the item and get their money refunded, but then they have already spent money on it (supposedly) and they would also have to pay for the return costs

keep copies of their email stating they have repaired/altered the item. The buyer can't send it back in the same condition if they have repaired it.

How much was it - do you think they are lying and are angling for partial refund as they paid to much; buyers' remorse maybe?

It was £50, on a buy it now, brand new would have cost £90+. He's asking for £12 back.

you're very welcome. Just politely tell your buyer no - they have altered item so therefore have accepted it. Any other retailer would say exactly the same.

I doubt they will take it further. Let us know how it goes :)

Just to let you know we have today managed to get the case reffered and found in dhs favour. Yay!

Can't believe it's taken so long but the right out come.
