Is it worth selling high heels on eBay?

I've got a load of high heels that I used to wear until I got pregnant! They are mostly Faith, New Look and Kurt Geiger, and are all leather/suede or fabric-I can't wear synthetic 'leatherette'. They've been sitting in a box now for more than a year and I'm on an eBaying role. I was thinking of selling them all but if they don't sell very well, I'll just give them to a charity shop. I tried to search completed listings but my computer's playing up and won't show the prices they did/didn't sell for! Also, if I did sell them, how would I wrap them? I don't have boxes at home. Well maybe a few cereal boxes but I have at least 20 pairs of shoes to sell.

Go to Sainsburys or other supermarkets and get wine boxes. Send them in those.

I would wait personally till the 4th July when the free listing weekend is and sell them then because then if they don't sell you've not lost anything. What size are they?

They're size 5. How do you know there's a free listings weekend on the 4th of July? I will wait until then. I'd thought about wine boxes but I don't drive so the idea of travelling with a baby and boxes on the bus isn't that appealing. I suppose if I get one or two each time it would be doable.

They do one every month in the summer - the last one was 4th June

Pop each one in a carrier bag and tie to buggy, only one way will be a PITA.

Ok! I didn't realise they did one per month for the summer. I've listed things for the last two free weekends and wondered why they were so close together. Thanks for the advice.

I've listed all my unwanted shoes recently, Next, New Look and they all went really quickly. I listed them from about £4.99

Thanks moo, I'll make sure I get them out and clean them if necessary before the beginning of July. I'm too stingey to list things when I have to pay insertion fees!

If you start them at 99p you don't have to pay insertion fees. There is an argument that if you list them on a free weekend you won't get as good a price as there is so many people listing. I don't know if this is true or not.

I wouldn't want to sell them at 99p when I'd only receive 66p. I'd rather give them to a charity shop to profit from them instead. I've heard the argument that things sell more cheaply after free listings weekends but so far I've listed 57 items over the last two free weekends and the total so far (15 finish this weekend) is £440 so about £400 profit. I wouldn't in a million years have thought I'd make this much from these items, so I'm not entirely convinced I could have got more if I'd listed at a different time. The benefit, in my eyes, of listing for free is that I can list for the minimum I'd like without having to pay if they don't sell.

but then there is always the argument that items find their selling price, and if an item is listed correctly and ending at the right time of day it will always sell for the correct price, regardless of what the listing was started at.

But say I was interested in an item that's listed at 99p and I'm willing to pay £10. If I'm the only bidder, I'll get it for 99p, but I'd have still bid if it had been listed at £10. Some of my items have sold at the starting price so this could have happened to me if I'd listed at 99p. Instead, I'm happy with the price I've got for everything.

In my own experience, I havent done very well with shoes at all. Whether they were KG or, Peacocks!! I dont know why.

I made a massive mistake this week of starting a never worn Damsel in a Dress silk dress at 99p and Im never going to get nowhere near as much as it is worth. Someone once told me to start everything at 99p but now i can see that was bad advice.

katya, I hope people are waiting until the last minute to bid on your dress. I'll try the shoes out and hope for the best. I've got loads more stuff to sell. It's amazing how I've sold 39 items and my flat still looks the same!

Can you also let me know when you list them plse.
I am a shoeaholic in denial but I need some kahki, green, bronze and blue any colour heels or sandals or any style so I would be a good customer and am willing to pay way more then 99p

I normally wait for the free listing so if they don't sell I won't lose out. I have sold a few pairs of shoes which have started at different prices. A pair of Dune wedges that started off at £10 but sold for £16. I sold another pair of wedges for 99p and was not happy about that so will only start off with a price that I am happy to sell for, anything more is a bonus!

Why are there so many shoeaholics with size 5 feet?! It's sad that I have nowhere to wear them anymore and I'd probably break my ankle in them these days. I'll let you all know. Hopefully, they're not disappointing!

I love shoes and have many heels but am selling them too as I can't bloody walk in them.

I sold a pair of Pied a terre wedges last week. Worn once only. I couldnt walk in them either. I got £20 and they were £140. I dont know what else to do though.

Hi, jut readint he arguement again about the 99p start and a bit of advice i would give it to start your auctions on a saturday or sunday evening (when its the free listing time) but leave them for 10 days instead of the 7, everyone will be listing but will usually list for the usual week, this way you get an extra 3 days so your item sells midweek instead of a sat evening when everyone is out or a sunday when people are getting kids stuff and there own stuff ready for the week ahead.

Ive never sold anything at a decent price on a sunday, but usually find tues-thurs is a good time to get a good price for items

That's probably why my dress is stuck at 18 pounds then. It finishes today.

I'm doing seriously well with my items ending today! For the next free weekend, I was planning on listing things on both Saturday and Sunday for 7 and 10 day listings. Mainly because I'd find it difficult to post loads on the Monday. However, my 9 month old daughter might prevent my plans from working!

I did rubbish and my shoes did the worse!! worn once and thats all.

I dont seem to get as good prices as I did even a year ago. I wonder if it is just because everyone is tightening their belts in general?

I think people are spending less - and I also think there are lots of sellers getting rid of stuff trying to make money. Is a shame.

I cant say Ive ever made money just that Ive sold really good hardly worn stuff for hardly anything which is fine if its going to get worn and enjoyed. A couple of bits still with labels on I have a suspicion will get sold on.

I have phases with ebay. It can be hard work although it seems easy!! For some reason I always end up spending more on postage. I havent worked out where I am going wrong yet with that one!

I just found out about the free weekend. This eBaying is taking over my weekends! I spend one weekend listing and the next checking to see how much they sell for.
I've only sold bras , vintage clothes, a couple of other clothes and a car seat with base that only went for £20. I can't believe how well I've done to be honest. I'll be digging some more things out to sell. Everything needs washing again because most of these things have been stored, which is hard work.
