Received damaged PC- Seller wishes me to pay him to return it

I have to pay shipping costs to get it returned? It looks like it's been dropped from a height. I'm sure it's been damaged in transit

He's got my money and won't refund until I return it to him. Then it will take 10 days + to get refund of the original price ( no mention of whether he will refund original P&P) but he expects me to pay a not inconsiderable fee to post it back to him. The delivery was supposed to be 24 hours but took 5 days and arrived very damaged.

It's normally standard ebay policy. If it was his fault or the transit companies fault you might get your postage refunded then I think. Others will know more.

He paid for Parcelforce shipping insurance. Surely this should cover his losses?

yes but he can't claim until he has proof I think. He's not trying to con you, tbf you can get it shipped back to him for about £8.00.

If it was me I'd email saying you understand that he will have to claim for a refund through his insurance to cover his losses and you are wary of jeopardising this and, as he sent the item to you fine, and it is the courier as he says, would it not be better for him to organise a courier to pick up to prevent any further blame or liability?

This is my first purchase on ebay and possibly my last. I'm not impressed

He wants me to make a Paypal payment to him to cover the cost of P&P to return it and I then print out the return slip

It's £15. I can't sit at home waiting on a delivery man to collect (as requested)

He told me Wed to deliver and I waited in...then Thursday.... then it was Friday.

Arse. I'd try and bump this on the morning if you can, a lot if the e ay whizz kids will be around then they might come up with something better.

I'm not sure I'd paypal home the funds without a invoice though. I'd rather sent it myself. P4d are good and a lot cheaper.

P4d seem good and I will use them. No joy in discussions with seller because he has to wait 8 weeks for his compensation.

I certainly am put off buying on ebay because paying to return damaged goods is not my idea of a good buy

You are entitled to a full refund once you have returned it by trackable means.

Work out the best trackable service and send it back to him. He should issue a full refund ie the item price plus original p&p. If he tells you to wait until he has claimed explain that you require your refund now. If he still refuses open a dispute, and of course you will have your tracking info and a refund will be issued.

a good seller would also refund your return postage but it seems unlikely here.

you will be able to return it to him for less than £15 - google cheap courier and put in the details, weight, etc for a quote.

The seller should refund you your return costs also by the way. I would prob go to paypal yourself now and start a claim.

I see his issue. He may have lost his money (other than what he can recoup by remarketing this pc with an intact casing).

It sounds as if Parcelforce will argue that they cannot be held responsible for damage because the cardboard box is mostly intact. The packaging around the PC should be 'more robust' is their view. I reckon they have dropped this from a good height and internal damage has occured. I will never buy anything which requires careful carriage!

Yes it was covered in FRAGILE tape
