I've listed a few things and I have been hit by a comment from ebay saying that they have set a maximum for P&P on the item I am selling.

I have a pair of country boots. Quite heavy and postage is set by ebay at £6. Even at the cheapest rate from royal mail it is more than that.

Similar with a make up beauty bag I have - P&P set at £4. It will cost more than that to send by the time I have bought a jiffy bag big enough to post it in.

Is there anyway round this?

no you will just have to start the item price higher to absorb the postage cost

Yes - you can choose the option of 'heavy and bulky item' from the post option drop down instead of same cost to all buyers and then the P&P can be any price you like but must be included in your item description, and you add it to the invoice before sending the invoice to your buyer. Have a look at one of my listings here where I had to do the same thing and that should help

Gregs - It's under "Give buyers P&P details" > Domestic postage > Postage services >Courier: Heavy and bulky items - Specify your courier options in your item description.

You don;t have to send by courier - they just assume that but so long as you specify clearly in the description the cost and the posting method you'll use it should be fine - that's the way I've been doing it for a few years now when the items I have are far heavier than the P&P allowance and I don't want to inflate the starting price.
