Right so I've had an awkward buyer who's clearly going to give me negative feedback given the chance so I want to sort this asap.

I opened an unpaid item case on thursday 19th may so can close this from monday 23rd may. She has now paid but by echeque which will clear between 26th and 31st May (so I can close the case before it clears in theory but can I in reality as it's paid but not cleared?).

I would be happy to cancel the transaction and it sounds as though she is too, but am not sure whether this will cancel the pending echeque payment or whether I would still receive it. Obviously she'd be unlikely to agree to cancel it if she thought I'd still get her money.

I emailed ebay asking what I can do (basically with the above senarios) as it's not as straight forward as most transactions. They emailed back with a load of rubbish saying I could refund the money when it's cleared and close the case on Monday. That makes no sense as I can't refund the money until next thursday. They mentioned nothing about how to cancel the transaction. It makes me think they didn't read my questions properly and didn't look at all the relevant dates, which I had explicity put in my email.

So... can you lovely MNers shed any light on what I can/can't do? I'd rather not close the unpaid item case yet until I know what I'm going to do.

ebay send auto mail - it's rubbish.

I'm not too sure on all this but - maybe the only thing you can do is refund the payment - may have to wait until it clears I'm not sure - have a look on the paypal details and see if it tells you if you can refund.

before closing the dispute read through all the options very carefully. If in doubt don't click.
Try to avoid a situe where you are relying on her to agree to a cancellation, because if she doesn't agree you won't get your fees back.

Once refunded, you should have an option in the dispute to close as both parties do not want to proceed (or similar)

surely the unpaid item case is now cancelled as the buyer has paid?

fergoose it hasn't closed because she technically hasn't paid as it's not cleared funds and there's always a possibility it won't clear.

sixlostmonkeys It won't let me refund it yet on paypal. I might just close the unpaid item case on monday and if I do receive the money just refund it straight away. I can't see any other way where she's not in control of it all. Sad

oh well then just close the case on Monday and refund her echeque when it clears.
