Should I wait for free listing, or just list this?

I'm toying with the idea of replacing my oven and hob, and I've found new ones I like, which fit etc etc.
So, I thought I'd list my current ones on e-bay to see what happens- if I get a bid, I immediately purchase new ones!! (In the event of having no oven or hob, I can manage. Just!)

Should I wait for free listing day, or just go for it? Is it worth waiting for the free listing days anyway if it's the occasional item?

How much will you start the auction at?

Some of my items didn't sell so I am waiting for another free listing in case they don't sell again and I won't have to pay any fees.

Free listing is just free to put up the item, you still have to pay a % once the item sells.

cuppateaplease · 18/05/2011 12:14

I've just had an email stating free listing this weekend!

PrincessOfWails · 18/05/2011 12:16

Dunno, haven't thought that far ahead really! I'd rather not sell at 99p, obv. But I'm not expecting to get hundreds - more like £50, maybe £100 if I'm really lucky.
The listing fees are basically quite low anyway, aren't they? I'm guessing there's a big chance these won't sell - the oven is fitted, and the hob is LPG gas (although can be converted to city gas). They're not amazingly sexy or trendy - but I'd rather not just bin them if I can get something for them!

I got an email this morning that says free listings for May 21st and 22nd.

PrincessOfWails · 18/05/2011 12:19

Ooh, Cookie, that could be problem solved, then. It's not listed under 'news' for me, though. Is it likely to be general for everyone??

The most I have put up an item was £50 and that cost £1 to put up.

If you get free listing then you may as well put them on, northing to lose then.

Have you searched ebay for similar items? That might give you an idea of how much to put them up for.

I haven't had an email!

seedlessgrape · 18/05/2011 12:22

I've had an e-mail as well confirming free listings on 20th and 21st May.

TragicallyHip · 18/05/2011 12:23

Where's my email! I can't see it on announcements either.

PrincessOfWails · 18/05/2011 13:20

I don't get e-bay emails but depend on the announcements. Maybe Cookie is special! Grin

I'm sure I'm not special! It's odd that it's not in Announcements ... maybe it's a scam email? I wouldn't have thought so though, because usually scam emails are after personal details of some sort.

TragicallyHip · 18/05/2011 13:31

Have you checked your announcements? Tbh I don't think I get the ebay emails.

PrincessOfWails · 18/05/2011 13:33

Mean kind of scammer, though! Got me all excited about free listing and everything!! Talk about getting a girl's hopes up!

The e-mails usually come out before it is listed in the announcements - up to a day before, I have found. I got an e-mail and it is genuine as it contains my eBay name and eveything.....

TragicallyHip · 18/05/2011 17:13

Oh maybe thats why then. I'll check announcements tomorrow. I have a huge amount to put on!

PrincessOfWails · 18/05/2011 17:19

Yay, well the oven dilemma is sorted - I list for free; and I can list other stuff too. Thanks for the info! Smile
