Am trying to pay via Paypal and getting error message instead...? Help!

Bought a few items this morning on ebay. Went to pay via paypal as usual and when I got to the confirm payment bit I got an error message which read "Sorry, we weren't able to complete your request at this time. If you encounter this message more than once please contact us and we'll do our best to help" Tried a couple more times and kept getting the same message.

I have never had a message like this before, does anyone know what it means? My account is still verified. It is linked to my bank account and also credit card so can't be lack of funds.

I tried the automated answer section and found it pretty unhelpful. It just wanted to tell me how I could change my method of payment. But I want to pay via Paypal and don't know why there is a problem!

I have emailed Paypal to query this. Would prefer not to ring them if possible as I imagine that the call may be quite expensive...

Help please! Does anyone know what this means?

clear your cookies - that should sort it. Has done for me in the past.

No but the same thing just happened to me two seconds ago, and I think it's maybe the site acting up. CBA calling them - I'll try again later, and have emailed the seller to explain what's up.

I then came on MN to waste time in a different way, not planning to post about this, and saw your post Grin

I had that last week- it only did it the once though.

if it's happened a couple of times, then contact them like it says...

Oooh thanks DirtyMartini. I was hoping it may just be a glitch in the system. I will also try again later then. Thanks for responding to me, I was a little worried that perhaps my account had been hacked into or something [paranoid].

If it hasn't resolved by later today I will try your solution Fergoose - although I would have to get you to tell me how to clear the cookies, I have no idea [technologically challenged].

You could always Google re clearing cookies. Is easy. Details will depend on your browser.

I have contacted Paypal nickel but am waiting for a response. Hoped that MN could put my mind at rest in the meantime.

Have spoke to ebay and they are having a problem.

They suggest waiting about 4 hrs or contacting seller and asking them to issue an invoice through paypal and paying that way.

I have had this problem too, Paypal have said it was a known problem and to pay seller via their email address.

if you log in at ebay.com instead of ebay.co.uk you can make your payments fine.

i have just messaged the seller and waiting for her to get back to me then i will pay - i have bought a wedding dress, so hope payment system is working soon!!!

I agree mummylouise that it looks like they were doing an update as the format and process re payment was different.

All fixed. Yes they must have been updating, it's all vaaary fancy shmancy now. I have made myself look like a right berk to the seller but nevermind.

well we thought that it would be a spur on the moment type decision - so the dress is for when that happens. does that sound mad. i hate the whole big wedding thing so would rather tell ppl afterwards - but i want a lovely dress to wear and i found it!!!
