What does payment pending mean?

obviously I know what it means...but when I click on a sold item, it says claim your payment and takes me through to paypal where this comes up. These items sold on Tues and now it says processing payment. Should I sit tight or are buyers waiting for an invoice? Some things are paid for straight away. How come? Am an ebay novice as you can tell. Thanks

have a look on the details of the transaction in paypal. It may say it is an echeque and give you a date when it should clear. If there are no details then the payment has been sent to a different amail address (check you put the correct email addy on each listing)

Thanks for that, it still says payment pending and has the egg timer rather than £ sign. Bit confused tbh.

It's Paypal's version of clearing. Depending what bank/ card the person paying has used sometimes it's not instant.

bamboostalks · 30/04/2011 12:05

Thank you. So I shouldn't post until it has cleared? Seems to be taking ages.

does it give you an estimated cleared date on paypal?

KenDoddsDadsDog · 30/04/2011 14:14

Maybe drop them a mail? I have always posted but I could be doing so incorrectly!

sixlostmonkeys · 30/04/2011 16:48

no, you don't post the item until the echeque has cleared (paypal tell you not to and also tell you when the expected cleared date will be. You will get an email from paypal informing you it has cleared.
I have a feeling though that this isn't an echeque but rather the payments have gone to the wrong email address, which is why I have asked what it says in the paypal details on paypal. If there are no details on paypal then you need to look at which email address was givin in the listing - this is probably why it said on ebay to 'claim' it.

Thanks so much all, especially sixlostmonkeys as you were spot on. It was to an old email address that was spammed so I had long opened a new one but never renewed info on pp as use it so infrequently. Thanks so much for your help. Sorted now.

For info this can also happen when a credit card date expires and paypal start the payment whilst telling the payee to update their card details happened to me a couple of years ago once it goes 'pending' it takes longer to clear regardless of how quickly you update the card details it seems.

Oh yes I also agree never never post goods until payment has cleared I have heard some quite awful tales of buyers not paying and disappearing with the goods. I've only had one non payer so far touch wood.
