Buyer has left neg feedback - can I do anything?

Have just received my first neg feedback in 400+ feedbacks... Gutted.

I made a mistake in a listing and listed a baby outfit which was incomplete. A few days after auction end I was parceling up and realised I couldn't find one part of the outfit - id taken the pic and first listed ages ago, then put the stuff in a box and it must have got lost enroute. So I emailed the buyer, explained briefly, apologised and offered refund. She was fairly stroppy in her response as she 'was so very disappointed'... fairly melodramatic given it was a 99p item. So I refund with a note apologising again.

Five hours later, she leaves me negative feedback stating that she is awaiting refund.

I've sent a feedback retraction form, or whatever it's called, saying as I made a full refund after discovering and apologising for my mistake I would ask her to recinsider the neg feedback.

She declined.

Can I do anything else?

Nope nothing at all I'm afraid.

No sadly nothing, except leave a calm response - 'I refunded in full as item incomplete & sent part item anyway. Apologies'.

A polite level headed response shows you are decent when things go wrong.

or suchlike.

Did you refund via the original paypal payment? Check with her she has received it? How about sending what you do have of the outfit free of charge.

Unfortunately some sellers do refund payment claiming damage/lost when they didn't get enough for an item. Not saying you have done this at all by the way, but maybe she is disappointed at losing out on perceived bargain. I won a £50 dress for 99p, and it was mysteriously 'lost in post' so seller refunded. Am just waiting for her to relist it at higher start price!

queenebay - Sad Thought as much, but still disappointing

fergoose, Ive got rid of the other half and wouldn't choose to send it to her anyway, as shes been, in my opinion, so rude and unreasonable. I understand your 'some sellers' but certainly not me, I was frustrated more than anything. I just want these boxes of baby clothes rehomed and if i make a small amount of pocket money doing so then its ideal! Certainly not trying to artificially boost the total.

Will think through my repsonse to her feedback

i know I agree is awful - there is no need for rudeness is there.

I hope you don't think I was inferring you were 'some sellers' or were in any way dishonest - that was never my intention.

we've had a few, they're really unfair. most just left it without contacting us at all. the system sucks as we can't even give them a neut as a buyer

Tobermory · 13/04/2011 19:38

No, well possibly only for a paranoid moment or two! I realised you were speaking generally Smile

Sorry for misunderstand - the typed word often reads so differently doesn't it - it sounded so reasonable in my head!

stylenotfashion · 13/04/2011 19:59

fergoose I read it reasonably too, I know what you mean. Tobermory I am amazed you can't ask ebay to retract the feedbcak themselves?? It seems so unfair on you :( Some buyers are a huge pita and it does get upsetting.

I agree though be calm and cool in your reply. A neg won't put me off unless the response is aggressive in return. That's offputting!! Think most people would ignore 1 neg & assume a grumpy buyer.

I'd ask ebay to retract the feebback anyway :)

I've had one neg in over 500 positives. I sold wellies. I cleaned them. They had mud in the creases on the sole. Got negative for being dirty. They were wellies! FFS

Ebay is a real bind sometimes!

I got a neutral once for a Radley bag in fantastic hardly used condition. Bizarrely the comment she left was along the lines of 'lovely bag, as described, arrived promptly' so I have absolutely no idea why she decided to give a neutral rating (and was too much of a coward to ask!!)
