first ever ebay listings- how many Watchers is a good sign?

I put 2 things up on ebay this weekend, first time I have used it.

The first is a collectable item, I have 10 watchers.

The second is some girl's calrks boots, which now has one watcher.

Is this pretty normal? Or even below average? Or can I look forward to an exciting bidding war?!

Some people watch as they have something similar to sell and want to get an idea of what it will go for, others watch because they are interested and want to buy!
I sold a Monsoon dress for my mum at the weekend, it had 18 watchers and had a little bidding war at the end! :o

Are they winter boots? I found that winter boots are better going on towards the autumn as you wont get as much as you would then. Tis only my personal opinion, there is bound to be someone else on who will say I am totally wrong!

Yes winter boots. I meant to put them up in the autumn and I totally forgot about them. Money very tight so I thought I might as welll see if I can get something for them.

Hmmm, hoping the collectable things does well then. It is a vintage wooden radio (1930s) so I'm hoping there's loads of people looking for this rare model! Grin

Did you have a look at what others have gone for? Thats always a good thing to do!

redhappy · 28/03/2011 16:31

Had a look, seems a bit hit and miss, so I think it's down to the collecters knowing what they're looking for and certain things being rare/desirable?

I have no idea however, so just hoping this is the one they all want!

here it is just checked again and 11 watchers now!

I had 5 watchers for an item that sold yesterday, still only went for 99p tho Sad

It's a lovely radio, Shame I don't live anywhere near you!

Is it worth a lot? You my have wanted to start the bid a little higher Maybe?

cybbo · 28/03/2011 16:42

10 is good- altho I had 40 watching my rabbit hutch and 40 odd watching a carpet bag that ended up sellling for nearly as much as I paid for it, 10 years later

cybbo · 28/03/2011 16:43

It will go bonkers in the last 5 minutes

redhappy · 28/03/2011 16:44

I know, I'll be sad to see it go Sad

But we are seriously skint, so much so that some days even 99p will make a difference! Hope I get a reasonable price for it, but I can't justify keeping it when we need any money we can get.

It came from my Grandad who is a serious collectaholic! He's got loads more at home so if I want one again it would be easy to get hold of.

OOh I do hope so!

Have just realised I will be at a wedding next sat so I wont even be able to watch it happen, or know how much it sold for til much later.

Well, it's only been on 2 days so hoping the number of watchers will keep going up...

In my experience, the number of watchers is not necessarily directly proportional to the number of bids. For example, I got 15 watchers for a collectable item and still only went for a couple of pounds with only 2 bids. I had 35 watchers for another item and only had 2 bidders in the end. Another item I had 7 watchers for but 5 bidders and it went for more than I thought.

Anyway, good luck with your stuff.

ninedragons · 29/03/2011 12:00

That's a fantastic radio. If I didn't live in Australia I'd bid on it.

My only suggestion would be to add the dimensions (unless they are there and I missed them)
