Selling car on eBay, what do I need to know?

Hi all,
So I'm an experienced eBay seller and buyer (just my own stuff, not a trader), but I want to sell my car through eBay. Is there anything in particular I need to know / do? In particular:

  • Do the same fees apply (listing fee and final value etc)
  • Is it better to list as auction or Buy it Now?
  • If I put 'car advertised elsewhere so I reserve the right to withdraw the listing' or somesuch will I be legally covered if I sell it elsewhere first?
  • Anything else specific to car selling which I might not have thought of?

Thank you! Smile

Any tips on my other questions above?

You cannot put on your listing advertised elsewhere, when you list on eBay you are saying you are not selling elsewhere. Only take cash on collection, do not take any offer of PayPal as there is no seller protection.

Describe the car accurately using as many pictures as possible.

Check out advanced search and completed listings to see what other cars the same have gone for.

Don't expect an unrealistic price.

Ah OK thanks, so I should give it a whirl on eBay and then advertise elsewhere if it doesn't go...

So is auction with a reserve better than Buy it Now, do you think? I know I'll get a load of people offering £ to end the listing early - should I just go with Buy it Now?

Let the auction run to the end.

I started my car at £150
by the end of day 9 (of 10 - to cover two weekends) it was at £450
in the last three minutes it rose to £990

be willing to sell to mainland Europe
make sure you take cash on collection
and do the V5 right

I barred inspections because of where the car was stored but put up 12 GOOD pictures - showing good as well as bad
and a really detailed truthful description.

Thanks all, we're live now, fingers crossed! x
