What does limited bids mean?

I just bid for something that i bid for before and didn't win (i don't know if it's a duplicate item or the orig, if the winner didn't pay them)-
and my bid was not accepted!!!
A note popped up from eBay saying it was probably because the seller was limiting the number of bids.
What's that all about? How strange. They don't want bidders??!!
I have over 2000 feedback, i am a reputable buyer and seller so it can't be about me personally.

they will have set their preferences to limit the number of bids a bidder can place within 10 days

i wonder why that is. What would be the reasoning for that? surely the more bids the better??

i only bid once this time.
When i bid before for identical item, i bid a few times.

I know there is a reason for setting this preference but I can't for the life of me think what it is at the moment.....

it seems a bit mean really as i didn't win last time so thought i'd try for another! but that's just me sulking

It would mean that if a bad ebayer makes a bid on one or more of your items, then they can't bid on all of them and ruin your sales for that period. I have my settings this way.

If you message the seller and explain then I am sure they will put you on the exclusion list so you can bid.

Because you have reached maximum number of bids. Have you contacted the seller?
