sold on item on saturday e mail received saying payment received being processed by paypal(as opposed to an instant payment which i'm used) when i check paypal no payment pending in that name . i assume buyer has paid with an e cheque . i don't think i should post until the payment is in paypal but i'm concerned about negative feedback if i delay posting for too long
advice badly needed

I wouldn't. An echeque can take ages. Maybe send the buyer an email saying that you will post as soon as their payment is showing as cleared and not still pending?

Dumbledoresgirl · 02/03/2011 08:56

Definitely don't post until the payment is in your account.

Email the buyer and explain the delay. That should be sufficient to ensure you don't get negative feedback. IME as a buyer, I just like to know what is going on and speed of delivery is secondary.

sixlostmonkeys · 02/03/2011 08:57

if it is an echeque it will still show on your paypal and will state that it is an echeque and when it is expected to clear.
If it is not showing then you need to check that it has been sent to the correct email address.
Don't post anything until you have a cleared payment

FabbyChic · 02/03/2011 08:58

You said you received an email did that email come to your PayPal email address? If the money is not showing in PayPal then you have the incorrect email address on your listing.

To see the payment add the email address that you received the email to to your PayPal account, confirm it and the payment will appear.

If you had recieved an echeque the payment would be showing in your PayPal account and show an expected clearance date on the email you received.

YOu only ever send goods when you have cleared funds, unless you can see the money in your PayPal account in a Pending balance in that case the payment has been held under PayPals 21 day hold in that case you send immediately.

However, you said payment being processed this leads me to believe you have the incorrect email address on your listing.

mummypontipine · 02/03/2011 09:02

thanks for that , i had already contacted to say i'll post as soon as payment clears. my main concern is /was there is no indication in paypal that the payment is pending even though i've had a a paypal email to say payment received iyswim

are you absolutely sure you have the correct email address? are your ebay and paypal email addresses different by any chance?

mummypontipine · 02/03/2011 09:10

really confused just checked the email it came to an old e mail address that i haven't usedon paypal previously . all my other paypal payments both before and since have gone to the right address what do i do now ?

explain to the buyer and ask them to cancel this payment and send to the correct addy. Assure them that once you have received a cleared payment you will post asap. Double check your listings for the email addy

FabbyChic · 02/03/2011 09:30

The buyer can only cancel the payment if it has gone to an email address not associated with a PayPal account.

mummypontipine · 02/03/2011 09:35

fabby chic the email address sent to is not asociated with my paypal account it hasn't been used in atleast 5 years . all my other items have paypal to the corect address so not sure how the mix up happened

OP posts:
sixlostmonkeys · 02/03/2011 09:35

...which should be ok as mummypontipine hasn't "used it on paypal previously"

sixlostmonkeys · 02/03/2011 09:36

mummyp, perhaps you just had a 'moment' (I have moments Grin ) and typed the wrong addy on your listing by mistake

mummypontipine · 02/03/2011 09:41

yes i think it probably just a moment ,trying to list too many items on a free listing weekend. thanks for all your help ,i'd never have sussed the problem without it

is another option just to add this old email account to my paypal edmail addresses

Yeah this happened to me a few weeks ago- adamant that I had used the correct email however I hadn't. Had a major moment. Thanks fabby for your advice you were right!
I put the email that was on the listing onto paypal, confirmed it through that email and hey presto!

mummypontipine · 02/03/2011 10:51

thanks i'll try that

FabbyChic · 02/03/2011 12:05

If you add the email address to your PayPal account and confirm it then the payment will appear.

mummypontipine · 02/03/2011 12:18

worked thanks again
