I've got 'post to United Kingdom' at the top of my listing

Which I thought was supposed to stop people bidding from abroad. Now I've got a bid from America (only bid so far). Is she in the wrong or is there something else I should have done to deter people from abroad? I don't want to get into the whole posting abroad thing for the sake of a few pounds!

posting overseas is really no different to posting to UK.
if you don't want bids from outside the UK you need to set your preferences to block bids from countries to which you don't post

its not a problem posting to overseas you just need to make them aware that they will have to pay the actual cost of the postage if it is more than you have quoted

But I thought I had set my preferences when I chose 'no international postage'. It says that the item will only appear on Ebay Uk but obviously that isn't the case. Oh I hope someone outbids her!

You have to block bidders from countries you do not ship to, you can remove the bidders bid, however you cannot change the listing now as it has had a bid.

You block the bidders here, choosing block bidders from countries I do not ship to.

offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?BuyerBlockPreferences

Select block buyers in countries I do not ship to, only do it once and it goes on all your future listings.

you could email the bidder asking them to remove their bid as you will not post overseas however i think it is good to include international bidders as you stand to make more money, i sell alot of my stuff to people outside the uk. all you do is weigh the item and go online to royal mail site to work out postage. within my listing in the listing description area i add the european and rest of world postal rates so they can see and make a decision before bidding, works a treat (usually....(

You can list on just ebay.co.uk so it won't show on ebay.com, ebay.de etc, but when you do a search if only a couple items come up you get "look on other Ebay sites?" and listings of any items on them. Or they can look at the sites directly.

By default even if you leave 'countries I ship to' unticked, people can still bid - most will ask before bidding and you can decide whether to offer postage prices or not. If they bid and didn't ask beforehand I get rather generous on my rounding up the price!

I find offering international postage helps the price go up but usually the postage cost means they aren't the winner, so it's win:win! Or they are really desperate and willing to pay loads.
