Watchers!! Why??

Have got 43 watchers and 2 bids!

Why can't they just bid!!?

Everytime I log on there are lots of these watcher people, so I think great, I might actually sell an item {smile}but then no bids..{sad}

What is the point of watchers?1

They might be selling similiar stuff now or plan to and seeing how yours goes.

Or they have no life but enjoy watching eBay now the XFactor has finished.

lindsell · 22/02/2011 23:34

Well I prob only bid on about 10% of the stuff I watch. I 'watch' things for various reasons - maybe looking for something and want to get an idea of what is available/what prices that sort of thing goes for, sometimes put things on watch list to think about as then decide later don't want to bid on it, may watch several of same item and then decide which to bid for considering (price/condition/seller feedback etc). Sometimes just forget it's ending even with the reminder on the eBay app - actually that happens quite a lot! Sometimes it may go too expensive so I don't bid. So lots of potential reasons why you have watchers! I sell sometimes too and it is irritating when you have lots of watchers and don't sell/get the price you hope for

It is bloody annoying !

themummymonster · 22/02/2011 23:55

Thanks, yes you have answered my question, it is annoying but guess if I sell on ebay I must not get excited/iritated by watchers - they are there whatever!!

I had 19 watchers on something last week and was expecting an exciting bidding war in the last minute. The thing didn't even sell.

exexpat · 01/03/2011 19:58

I was watching about 30 ipods the other week and only bid on two, I think (won one) - and I only ever bid in the last 30 seconds if I do. It's just the way ebay works. If you are even remotely interested in something, the only way you can keep track of it is by hitting watch. It's like picking up or trying things on in shops - you don't buy everything you touch.

Sometimes I watch things just out of interest with no intention of bidding - to see if ridiculously overpriced or misdescribed things sell, for example.
