This buyer is getting right on my tits

I just need to rant. Also interested to see whether people think I'm being conned.

I sold an item of baby clothing on 12th December. The buyer didn't pay for fricking ages but I CBA to chase her as it was just before Christmas and I didn't particularly want to make the trip to the PO anyway.

On 4th January, still without paying, she sent a message out of the blue saying "hi holidays not too good this year as my disease put me in hospital. i am giving this lil jacket to my first grandaughter due in march. dr says i wont make it that lomg, but i am determined to see her in her red coat once! thanks so much i'll be waiting for it!" and left me positive feedback Confused Perhaps I'm being cynical, but I wondered whether she hadn't paid so that I would chase her, then she could give me her line about being terminally ill and guilt me into sending the item for free.

I replied saying "So sorry to hear that - really hope you get to see her in it, it's a cute set :) My ebay is still showing payment not received - can you check your end?" She replied saying that it was showing as paid her end Hmm but payment came through on 6th Jan so I duly sent it off.

I then heard nothing until 22nd Jan, when she sent a message saying that she'd paid and asking for a shipping date. I replied with "Hiya :) It went out a few weeks ago so should be with you shortly. Let me know if it doesn't turn up. Best wishes, [Dita]". This seems friendly enough to me (?). Generally if stuff doesn't arrive then I ask buyers to give it a couple more weeks and then refund if it still doesn't arrive.

So last night I received this from her: "I sure hope so. It is size newborn and she is due in 4 weeks! I have ordered several things from different countries and NEVER had it take this long to reach me. I am leary of ordering from the UK now ( i think thats where you would be shipping from, i may have to look up where u r) its not that you have done anything terrible, i just feel like you care not if it gets here in time or not. Like if situation were reversed, i'd try hard to show that I cared about your specific order . I am sorry as I was hoping to establish repeat business relationship with you since our conversations have had been so pleasant. I still wish u the most success."

Wtf? Not really sure what else I'm supposed to have done - personally pursued it through Royal Mail? Now she's not going to buy any more things from the UK and the cut-price baby clothes market is going to go down the pan and it's all my fault! Plus she's not going to buy any more of my stuff - erm, you told me you'd be dead by March, lady, this isn't the worst threat you could have come out with.

Argh! (I'm am pregnant and hormonal btw Wink)

Now about to message her pointing out that there are delays with the US mail due to increased homeland security and um the MASSIVE FUCKING STORMS but really I just want to tell her to fuck off.

And relax ...

I would just ignore her solidly for a good few months - till March perhaps - then reply 'not dead then?' to her next missive after that Grin

If she's left positive feedback there's bugger all you have to worry about is there?

She sounds loopy!

MoonUnitAlpha · 04/02/2011 22:04

It's amazing how many buyers/sellers on ebay are hospitalized in my experience!

whomovedmychocolate · 04/02/2011 22:06

Apparently only people with sob stories ever get post stolen as well. Curious that Hmm

doricpatter · 04/02/2011 22:08

Sorry Dita but I've been doing a fair bit of eBaying recently and your post really made me Grin

Hope it gets resolved soon :)

Pictish · 04/02/2011 22:10

She's a nutter - if you've got your money, ignore.

JaquesTouatte · 04/02/2011 22:11

You can track your items through Royal Mail. It costs 74p extra in the UK, and less than £5 internationally. Include this cost in your P+P charges.

But yes, I think she is trying it on.

DitaVonCheese · 04/02/2011 22:50

Thanks all Grin I have sent a polite reply but soooo wanted to end it with "Not dead then?" Grin

She's certainly quite perky for someone who'd be lucky to make it to March Hmm Maybe she isn't terminally ill but her doctor was just threatening her because she's so annoying?

Usually I would offer a refund if an item got lost in the post, but this time I really don't want to. Poor woman, she was probably just being friendly Blush

Jacques I usually track stuff in the UK if they sell for over a fiver but don't bother for overseas stuff as it's so expensive. The item she bought was only £3!

Is she actually in the UK? If her item had not arrived within 10 days I would refund, I would not expect a seller to make me wait for a refund.

DitaVonCheese · 05/02/2011 09:38

No, she's in the US and I'm in the UK. The Royal Mail website has a message at the moment saying that there are delays to the US due to security measures and bad weather.

Send her a link to the US mail delays info. And block her from bidding again. If the emails are clearly a nuisance send them to eBay.

DitaVonCheese · 10/02/2011 22:52

Cheers. I apologised for any offence and sent her a link to the mail info last week, got this in reply:

"I am a Christian woman and therefore do accept your appology whole heartedly. Things happen i know. As I near the end of my life as i can no longer get put of bed after being sent home from hospital as nothing else can be done there, I am finding the smaller things in life are not as important as some other things. I did want my new granddaughter who's name will be Elizabeth to come home from hospital wearing this coat I bought her, yet if it doesn't happen, no love will be lost. Thanks for getting back to me. If you have family, embrace them. Life is so short"

Not really sure what to reply! Confused

Sounds so wierd it just must be true ...

SugarSkyHigh · 11/02/2011 16:09

not sure that if I was on my last legs and desperate to give my first grandchild a coat as a lovely gift, that I would buy it off Ebay - (no offence to your ebay shop)!
