Does BNWT item have to be new?

I'm quite new to selling on eBay. I have quite a few items of clothing to sell and some still have tags on, never worn. Can I list them as BNWT, even though some of them are a few years old? If not I'll just list them as never worn, tags still on (or similar).

Thanks in advance.

I believe 'new' means not worn or unused rather than only being a few weeks old.
BNWT is much more easily recognisable to ebayers than never worn, tags still on.

Great thanks. Will say BNWT then, just didn't want to sell items described as that, then get accused if misrepresentation.

i thought 'bnwt' meant brand new with tags. a few years old is not brand new.

Hmmm, that's what I was worried about.

Any more opinions?

If they have tags on and are unworn they are BNWT. The season is irrelevant.

Ok, thanks. Saying a five year old item is 'new' feels wrong, however I don't see where you could draw a line: one week, one month, one year?

If BNWT is recognised term for unworn with tags I feel ok using that.

Fine. Just mention in your description that you bought five years ago and has been in wardrobe ever since.

Will do, thanks for the advice everyone.

What Adair said.

I usually put when/where bought in this situation. But BNWT in the title is fine. Just specify a bit more in the blurb, that way you aren't misleading anyone.

maxybrown · 18/01/2011 22:20

eh? Of course it is still new!! It has not had the tags removed and has not been worn - how is that not new lucykate? She said it has the tags!

lucykate · 20/01/2011 19:50

brand new = bought recently. not 2 years ago.

maxybrown · 20/01/2011 19:58

matter of opinion then, not how I see it - it is hardly used when unworn and has shop tags attached! So once the shop no longer stocks it is is therfore classed as used?

marriednotdead · 20/01/2011 20:41

Who's to say how long ago a product has been made?

It could have sat in a warehouse for a couple of years before reaching a retailer- it's still brand new.

NestaFiesta · 04/02/2011 10:00

I usually put NWT in title then "Bought three years ago and carefully stored" in blurb.

TBH if something was described as BNWT but was a few years old, I wouldn't mind as long as it was in new, unused condition with tags.
