I know you're not allowed to use a brand name in your listing if it's not actually that brand you're selling, but is there a form of words that I can use to list something I've made which is like something is a popular catalogue IYSWIM?

Can I say something like "If you like the x that y sells, then you'll also like this x that I've made?

I want to catch the people searching for y - but I alos want to explain my x, which is quite an unusual object. Or is mentioning y a complete no -no?

Can you not say.. 'Similar to X'?

so long as you don't use the brand name in the title you should be ok.
Listings usually get reported if people have landed on your item looking for actual "brand" only to discover it's not. If they have landed on your item through other words and then go on to read that it is a similar item to "brand" it 'shouldn't' cause any problems
