Hi it's so exciting I am bidding on Ebay.

If I increase my bid will it count as a bid against myself?

No it won't - it will just increase your maximum.

Just make sure that you have put in the most you are prepared to pay. That way, if someone nips in with a bid at the last minute (as they often do), you won't think 'damn, I'd have paid that'.
