Buyer wants to use someone else's paypal

Hi I sold an item at the weekend and the buyer has contacted me to ask it I could send the invoice to his friend's paypal account. The reason he gives is that he has "limitation issue" on Paypal.

The message didn't make a huge amount of sense to be honest, but I just wondered if this sort of thing happens regularly? I am a bit sceptical about it myself as surely the whole point of paypal is that you either can put funds into it, or use it to debit one of your accounts.

Sounds a bit iffy, but you could email Paypal's helpdesk for advice (they reply within 24 hours. Go to the "Help section in paypal and select "contact us"). I guess the only concern is that you may be fleecing a stranger's account, but if Paypal OK it then that's not your concern.

No - do NOT deviate from the rules of Paypal. If he is fraudulently using the facility, you have no comeback at all if you have allowed this. My brother once sold a football Premiership season ticket to someone who paid immediately through paypal. He then aske my brother to send it as a gift to his boss in Amsterdam, which, as the money had come through, my brother didn't mind doing.
Two weeks later, Paypal got in touch with my brother because the paypal account had been hacked into and they were refunding the money (over £400) and debiting it from my brother as the goods had not been sent to the address attached to the paypal account. My brother lost the tickets and his money.

Thanks both. He only has feedback of 6 and one of those is a positive where the seller has actually left a comment about him "not paying and being a total loser". I think I will try to extricate myself from the transaction asap
