Seller not combining postage

I won 4 items. Asked before 4th finished if they would send a combined invoice with reduced combined posatge. Seller said ok. I've emailed now 7 times to ask again - still not done.

They emailed once to ask if I am finished bidding, and once to tell me how to pay!!! And they've added a charge (presumably for late payment! Not that they have told me though). Postsage is £8, for 7 books (some light booklet types) plus charge of £1

wwyd? emailed ebay, they havrn't got back to me

Oh dear, you could open a dispute, I think that's what I'd do at this point. Have you saved copies of all the messages they sent you?

NoahAndTheWhale · 19/09/2010 10:12

How long ago did auctions end? Charge for late payment sounds a bit off.

Although you can't force someone to combine postage, you could maybe complain about excessive postage if true cost is much less.

imregular · 19/09/2010 10:14

Yes. All on ebay server anyhow. I'm going to look into a dispute, couldn't see how to do it yesterday... Thanks for your help

You can't force someone to combine postage, but likewise I didn't think you could charge someone for late payment.

Tbh, £8 for 7 books doesn't sound extortionate to me. Even if they're not heavy they're probably too bulky to fit within the PO criteria to be able to do any cheaper.

I don't see how you can open a dispute tbh, more likely the seller will because you haven't paid!

Ended about 2 weeks ago.

Have they definitely received the emails? eBay did really odd things to mine for a while . Maybe check whether they have a listed email address anywhere and mail direct if so.

Bucharest · 19/09/2010 10:17

If it was 2 weeks ago, I'd have opened a dispute for non-payment by now.

(sorry!)

If they said they would combine postage but won't do it now, then they've misled you; Ebay wants sellers to provide a professional service; seller is a dolts if they said one thing and then do another.

But a lot depends on what the real postage costs to them would be.

Trawl Ebay fora for more advice on your situation; the folk there will help you or set you straight.

sixlostmonkeys · 19/09/2010 13:02

they can't charge you for late payment.

I'd message one more time asking if they will send you an ammended invoice for the correct amount, the P&p being reduced as agreed for combined purchase. If they ignore you I would pay for each item individually. If they are not willing to combine then the items should be treated as an individual transaction. They should then send the items out individually (if only to cover themselves should a buyer claim they have received one item but not the other three)

It is very silly of them to say they will combine and then not. To add a late fee is silly and against rules. As they agreed to a discount but then didn't I fully encourage individual payments. They will get paypal fees on each payment and hopefully learn a valuable lesson

imregular · 19/09/2010 21:12

What if they just send it all together anyway? I actually had this another time and left negative. Just annopying to be going through it again. So in theory I could just say I received one item then, and as I paid all seperately they would have no proof, right? (Not sure I'd have the gall to do this anyway mind)

a buyer could claim that yes, which is why sellers really should do everything correctly.
I would simply pay for each separately and let them see the 4 lots of paypal fees.
When you receive the items, take it from there. Maybe message and request a partial refund on the p&p, or message and say you have received one parcel, when can you expect to receive the other 3?.... just to worry them. Leaving appropriate fb and star ratings will also adjust their selling methods.

imregular · 20/09/2010 21:16

They've posted immediately and included a free book. Will see what I think when it all arrives. At very least I will give really low star ratings. Ta for your help
