My ds wanted to sell his ps2 on ebay. I told him to put it on my account but he wanted his own and did it with dh who has no clue about ebay. Anyway it ended on Sunday night. Buyer sent immediate message saying he'd paid. I thought I would deal with it all on monday with ds. Knew the hassle of packaging posting etc would end up with me. Anyway dh back at work on Mon, ds didn't know dh's paypal password to check payment had gone through. Real life took over and I had to go and see my mum. Anyway....got home to 6 messages from buyer saying getting suspicious he hadn't heard from me and final one saying cancelled paypal for the item. Ds didn't have any feedback as first transaction so understand might have been wary but it seems a bit rash to me. I emailed him apologising and now haven't heard back from him!

Should I be able to trace his payment (now apparently cancelled) on dh's paypal account? I'm a bit suspicious about him now! Wonder if he thought we were a bit green.

What should I do next. I've never had this kind of issue before. Thank you.

Well it's now Thursday and the buyer paid for quite an expensive (I assume) item on Sunday and had heard nothing from you. I think I'd have been a bit annoyed too, specially if I'd had to send six messages and got no reply to any of them till now. The fact that he has no feedback as well would have made me pretty nervous too. I don't buy from sellers who have no feedback I'm afraid. I know they have to start somewhere, but they're not starting with me. A good way to build up feedback is to do a bit of buying before you start selling.

I think your ds just has to chalk it up to experience.

Thanks Stormyweather for replying. Just been upstairs feeding my baby and thinking it through again. Made a mistake in my op. Bidding ended on Tuesday night not sunday. I wanted him to put it on to end on sunday. I agree about the feedback issue. I wouldn't buy from someone with no feedback either which is why I wanted him to put it on my account. Was quite cross with ds and dh.

So anyway, it was one day with no communication from us and while not ideal I was surprised that he cancelled the payment. His messages were one saying he'd paid, one saying he was getting worried and the same 4x saying he'd cancelled payment. Should it show up on dh's paypal that someone cancelled? There is no record, that i can see of him having paid at all.

friendly, I don't know if a cancelled payment will show up on your paypal - I've never had that. Seems odd that the buyer sent four messages saying they'd cancelled payment, but some people can be a bit strange, and certainly if it was Tuesday then they were a bit hasty in taking payment back. At least you've not really lost anything through it, apart from the listing cost. Maybe a good idea to relist on your own ebay?

StormyWeather · 19/08/2010 11:18

Oh, and good luck - hope you manage to sell the ps2 and get a good price for it eventually!

Thanks again, Stormyweather. You're right we've not lost anything. It's all packed up and ready to go to this man. Thank goodness I didn't send it. Nearly took him at his word and sent it on way to my mum's. It was only then that thought that was a bit trusting and better check dh's paypal.

I'll see if he replies today. If not I will list it on my account - good idea I hadn't thought of that!

Not quite sure how he could have cancelled a paypal payment.
Anything, either payment, or so called cancelling will show on the paypal account.

Oh he was a right case. Sent him a really nice email, apologising basically leaving it up to him. Heard nothing thurs, fri and sat. Because of his over messaging last week assumed he'd given up and was ignoring me. Suppose I should have messaged him to that effect. Anyway today log on for ds. Negative feedback saying he'd twice cancelled paypal and now given up. Message from him posted sunday saying same thing. Doesn't bother me really. Ds's account says -1 though! Is it possible to cancel an account?

Turns out ds2 wants ps2 and is willing to pay for it (whole nother thread I think that one - should he have to pay for something we bought ds thinking one day it would be passed down?!) Thanks everyone for all your suggestions and help.
