My daughter has had a rough couple of years between a hellish time at school and traumatic relationship with her dad. She is basically living on sugar free energy drinks (she’s 16 and buys them herself). She told me it was stress but my other daughter has disclosed it’s intentional. How do I raise this and nip it in the bud. It’s probably about ten days since she’s more or less stopped eating completely but she was already stuck thin, like 1st percentile thin. What do I do?? She has chronic crippling social anxiety and will refuse all professional help so it needs to be me. I at least need her eating SOMETHING! Any advice how to broach this and not freak out welcome please! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

@teenmaw I don’t want to freak you out. However, what you are saying is red on something called the MEEDS checklist (medical emergencies in eating disorders). Please take your dd to A&E right now. She needs to be seen. I have been where you are right now with a dd, who basically stopped eating for a fortnight. If your dd is as ill as what you’re saying, you my not be able to get through. Anything less than 500 calories in a day or no food for 24 hours is something to seek medical intervention for with a person, who has issues around eating. Please join the support thread 13. You will get a range of responses and help.

I would second seeking medical attention urgently. Energy drinks can cause heart issues, particularly in the absence of any solid food. Speaking from experience here as I spent a period on a steady diet of sugar free relentless and stress.
This may seem like a forceful, blunt approach, but it does rather sound like an very urgent situation, and eating disorders cannot be reasoned with, certainly not in any short space of time, anyway.
