Height lost after anorexia?

I had anorexia for a long time (13 years) before I engaged in treatment 8 years ago. Since then my weight has been reasonably ok with a few dips here and there but nowhere near as bad as before. My height was measured today and I am 3cm shorter than 8 years ago. I notice it when I am out with friends too - I used to be taller than some of them and I am now either the same height or shorter. I do have osteopenia although this had improved at my last bone scan. I'm pretty devastated by the loss in height and was wondering if anyone has experienced the same or has any advice?

Also why have I lost height NOW when I am a healthy weight and eating well? It doesn't make sense!

Could it be the osteopenia rather than the ED OP? Flowers

I suspect you've had a compression fracture due to weak bones and have lost height. I also have ED and have lost height for that reason. Might be a good idea to have a DEXA scan to check bone density?

@CadyEastman I did think that but my recent bone scan showed an improvement so I'm really confused.

@wifeywish1 sorry to hear you are in the same position. Do you know how compression fractures occur and how you would know if you had one? I had my last dexa scan a couple of weeks ago and am awaiting the results but my previous one showed an improvement.

Omg are you serious? How old are you ? I've lost 1.3 inches and have been anorexic for 13 years also. I didn't know it can change your height

@randomas I'm 34, how old are you? My height loss has only been recent and I've been a healthy weight in recent years so I don't understand it. None of my peers who had anorexia appear to have lost height. It's so upsetting.

I have several compression fractures, some of which were when I thought I'd hurt my back by awkwardly moving or lifting something and some I wasn't even aware of until the latest DEXA scan. You might want to check the Royal Osteoporosis Society Web page (although I really hope for you that it is not Osteoporosis). Very happy to chat more if you want to PM me x
