Hi

Has anyone tried Saxenda for BED?? If so, did you manage to control your binges whilst taking it?

Thanks Smile

It's used in higher concentrations to treat Type 2 diabetes.

It's not an antidote to binge eating, it's meant to be used as part of a weight loss plan which includes a calories controlled diet and exercise.

Are you being prescribed this? AFAIK, the NHS aren't prescribing this for weight loss.

It's not meant for people who binge eat and is listed as one of the drugs of abuse in eating disorders.

Thanks for the reply.

No I haven’t been prescribed it, I was looking at a private prescription. I also have a lot of weight to lose. If I’m honest I’ve been looking for a quick fix for the BED but I know deep down I won’t find it.

For private, you'd still need to consult a doctor and they'd need to agree that a prescription was warranted before writing one out.

@CreepyPasta I've just ordered some and have jumped onto a thread in weight loss. If BED is binging then losing your appetite for however many months and ensuring you get healthy eating habits will help - read 10% human for an insight into why. Essentially if you eat the wrong things your body gets out of kilter and starts craving those thjngs. It's no coincidence that we have highly processed food everywhere plus an obesity epidemic.

Use it as a springboard to totally change what you eat and it will help. Do supermarket light ready meals and it won't.

But also binging is (for me) about comfort eating and something that kills appetite could change that association between food and comfort. I'm going to set up a new association eg a bath or candle or going into my garden. Or even housework 😁. But while I have this appetite pre saxenda i have no chance.

Many years ago (20) I did the highly controversial diethyl-proprion (legal now but privately available) at a private clinic and I just lost that link between food and comfort. I ate the same thing every day and lost a lot of weight. I kept it off for a number of years until I found myself in an extremely stressful situation.

Apologies if BED involves another dysfunction - I do not have an ED apart from out of control eating (sugar/carbs) am medically obese now and do not throw up etc. Saxenda is a way to get back to healthy for me - I've seen what my skin friends eat and it isn't this.

My slim friends eat I mean!!

@CreepyPasta did you decide to give this a go? I am also considering it to try and 'reset' myself as currently need to lose at least 5 stone and am really struggling!

Vodkacranberryplease · 13/07/2020 22:05

@Orangesandlemons82 I don't know how old you are but if you are 20s to mid 30s and have normal blood pressure (or have medication) and no pre existing heart condition/good health otherwise I highly recommend a doctor led slimming clinic and diethyl proprion.

I lost a ton of weight and kept it off years ago - I just lost interest in food and was able to eat healthily and cut my attachment to food.

Lots of fuss in the press about similar but this is NOT illegal (they tried because the diet industry liked expensive things that don't work) and I have since had comprehensive heart checks done and am 100% fine. Just answer the doctors questions truthfully as they won't give it to you if it's unsuitable.

The other one - highly controversial because of said diet industry is the HCG diet. I have done it and lost a lot of weight very quickly (a pound a day!) and feel fantastic. It's a great diet though the armchair pundits with no first hand knowledge will tell you it's evil.

I can't do it because I won't give up drinking - and you CAN NOT drink on it. Or eat most food. But it so works!!! Google HCG forum and ignore anyone who says it's a scam - it's not. But you MUST do it exactly as they tell you. No exceptions. I have in the past had no weight loss for days because of fish oil supplements for example.

Thanks @Vodkacranberryplease. I hadn't heard of Doctor led slimming clinics and that Medication before but had a quick look and there is actually a clinic really close to me. I have sent them an email, so thank you.
