Just found this topic had finally been created. And thought we could all introduce ourselves and what our struggles are/have been.

Hi, I have pretty much had this problem since I was 10, I'm now in my 30's. I started with restrictions to deal with stress and ended up with anorexia. I have periods of recovery which can be quite long but emotions have always triggered a relapse.

Around 2007 a traumatic event occured and binge eating replaced the not eating. I had one period of recovery for about 6 months (not counting two difficult pregnancies) since then. I have been trying to recover since January and feel like I have a bit of control back.

Hi I have suffered from bulimia for about 11 years. I have gained 4 stone in the last 2 years and I binge eat a lot.

i was very ill for around 10 years with both bulimia and anorexia. the past few years ive been functioning better, now im left with chronic fatigue though, and i still binge/purge on occasion even though my eating is much better. i still have negative feelings about my body though and at times i feel great and at other times (like today) i feel really down and like i have a long way to go with it all.

I've been anorexic since I was about 12. I had a few hospital stays as a teenager/student but I've been stable for the last 8 or so years. I wouldn't say I was recovered because I'm very rigid about keeping my bmi underweight 'enough' to maintain my anorexic 'status' but not letting it get low enough to stop me living life normally and make it obvious what's wrong with me. I make sure it stays between 16.5 and 17.3, stick to 1200 calories or below, do plenty of exercise and throw up any 'mistakes'. It's not perfect but it's been my life for so long that, most of the time, it doesn't even bother me or seem bad.

My oldest daughter (11.5) has had disordered eating for a long time. She is underweight, very fussy and won't eat junk food or anything with a lot of fat in it. That (obviously!) worries me more. But she isn't secretive at all and school and CAMHS have been helping her since she was 8 so I'm hopeful that it won't develop into full anorexia. She doesn't know that I have an eating disorder but my aunt and my grandma were/are both anorexic too so I'm concerned that there has to be some kind of predisposition in the family - 4 generations who do not all live together and never have all lived together. Too big a coincidence surely?!

I don't know if I have an eating disorder. I can't eat when we go out for meals. My husband is currently away with friends on a foodie trip but I had to pretend to be ill.
