Advice on screening when using a donor who is a genetic carrier

Just looking for advice for people who have used donors who are known genetic carriers. Have found it such a difficult journey to settle on a donor and finally found one who is out of a US bank so we have the info on what he is a genetic carrier for.

It’s definitely something I would want to undergo genetic screening myself for before proceeding with embryo fertilisation. With my clinic (Kings) there is very little I can do until the sperm is actually with them other than the implications counselling.

I’m not sure whether I could undergo the genetic counselling and screening before they receive the sperm- I’m wary of waiting 6 weeks for it to get there and then another 3-4 weeks to wait for genetic screening results for myself.

I wondered if anyone had experience of or had any advice on whether I could/should just go and do my own genetic screening now through a seperate/private provider so that I’m waiting for those results whilst the sperm is being shipped, hopefully reducing delays at the other end (if all is ok).

Thoughts? Would a clinic usually allow you to undergo genetic counselling/screening once the paperwork is recieved but before the sperm actually arrives at the clinic?
