Donor eggs Spain

Hi, I am looking for some advice please. I am 43 years old and did 6 rounds of IVF resulting sadly in 2 miscarriages.

I am now considering treatment using donor eggs instead of my own eggs . My clinic partners with a clinic in Spain where we can purchase donor eggs.

I know this may sound really stupid but I would want the child to resemble me as much as possible, I have blue eyes and very pale skin and hoping the donor would have similar characteristics, not sure if I would be better using a UK clinic instead, has anyone had any experience with using donor eggs in Spain? Xx

At 43 with 6 failed rounds already, is another attempt a good idea?

WWY · 04/12/2024 22:52

I haven't but there will be plenty of donors in Spain who aren't actually Spanish. I've known Finnish and Swedish people for example who lived there who are blonde and fair.
You will be able to request your preferences.
Good luck.

But surely donor eggs are completely different ball game?

There are parents who have genetic connections and don’t look like their child. You’ve got so far, your child will be loved. Does it really matter what their eye or hair colour is? What about the father? My husband has blue eyes and black hair. I have brown eyes and very blonde hair. Our child looks like us because of their features not colouring. Your child won’t have your features, colouring, etc, but it will have your live and nurture. It doesn’t matter what colour your child is, all that matters is a loving and caring upbringing.

So I understood that in Spain the only criteria they are legally allowed to select eggs by is the physical resemblance to the mother. Which is good for you since you want that. It’s worth a go, I’d say; but I’d bet you’ll have to have the transfer in Spain and not the UK. Good luck! I really hope it goes well for you if you chose this. You totally deserve this - infertility is very cruel indeed.

Spanish clinics by law must match the donor and recipient's hair and eye colours, so that will not be a problem. They usually have a wide pool of donors and I was told that they can pretty much match most ethnicities except Oriental. But bear in mind that despite having a almost lookalike donor the child may still not look like you, they may just look like the father for example. Good luck 🍀

Our genetic daughter looks nothing like us. We are both dark eyes, hair and olive tanned skin, but our daughter has blond hair and blue eyes, more like a Skandinavian look. Even from face features she doesn’t look like us. Maybe it will be more visible in the future, I don’t know.
I guess that’s why i’m not too stressed about the look in DE treatment.

Why Spain? Why choose a Nordic bank?

Zankiu · 07/12/2024 09:36

I had donor egg treatment in Spain, after many unsuccessful rounds of own egg IVF. My DC is the image of their father.

@BraveBlueDuck it depends on the reason for not having had success so far, but if it is related to egg quality then donor eggs could be the solution. It was in my case.

Hi there, i would get your uterine environment checked before you go down the route of donor eggs. Maybe get a hysteroscopy to check for endometritis or fibroids etc. There is also endometriosis and adenomyosis which can affect conception.

I had DE in Spain and fell pregnant at 43. My little girl looks like my husband (which lots of children do) but she is not unlike me.

Spanish clinics are renowned for having one of the most diverse pools of egg donors. However, not all clinics in Spain offer the same level of high-quality care. Egg Donation Friends has curated a list of the top Spanish clinics that prioritize patient care. Check if your clinic is on the list. Hope this helps.

My very pale, blond blue eyes Finnish friend used DE in Spain and has a blond blue eyed child. They deliberately chose a donor to fit her features

A friend used donor eggs in a Spanish clinic and her child has blue eyes and pale skin.

Oh my goodness

yes I was 44 when I finally gave birth after 4 miscarriages. Donor eggs mean a much higher chance of pregnancy

if you don’t have much medical knowledge maybe do t offer your prejudices instead

@Alfiebear123 I have a 1 year old conceived with donor eggs from a Spanish clinic (IB). He is a 'mini me' of his Dad (I'm told this all the time!!) but I have been told by a few people that he looks like me, and he is very similar looking to his older sister (she is genetically my child). I submitted several photos of myself before treatment, I believe the clinic uses computer software to get a good match. They have a large pool of donors and I think they have a lot of international university students as donors (not just Spanish). As some other posters have said, they have certain physical criteria they have to match. Good luck. You have a massively improved chance of success with DE treatment (I am older than you, age is irrelevant in DE treatment but I did have to have a LOT of health screening, checks and have a letter from a UK GP to say I was physically and mentally fit)

Maddy70 · 15/05/2025 15:18

I live in Spain and my blonde Scottish friend has donated eggs here

Latetothe · 17/05/2025 10:46

We have a daughter from donor egg and she looks far more like me than DH!

Might be as I’m darker and so that’s what dominates

but also she’s very like me in mannerisms and that’s a huge part of it.

i had the same worries and never for a day have regretted it. It’s such a joy to have your own little one. Know it’s sounds cliche but you won’t even notice once they’re here
