Where to get a mammogram?

We're currently speaking with clinics in Portugal and they all have a requirement that I must have a mammogram before I can start treatment.

Spoke with my GP surgery (who were useless), and called the local breast screening hospital but you're unable to self-refer.

Any ideas?

Hello namesake :)

You can do them privately but they cost around £250-300 last time I checked. In the end, I did mine in Spain (where my clinic is) as I was going there to check out the facilities and get some other tests done anyway. It cost me only 60 euro.

Haha - what are the chances with the names! Thank you so much for replying.

That's great to know, none of them have offered that as a suggestion, so once we decide who we're proceeding with I'll contact them.

I have private medical insurance through my employer with Bupa, but they've just confirmed a mammogram would be payable, as not part of my plan.

My Portuguese clinic told me I needed one, but when I pushed back and asked if it was really mandatory and told them it would be expensive to do in UK they changed their mind. I'm about to have my third transfer and still never had one.

I had one privately in the UK around £250 at a private hospital in the Circle group. I have also had one in Spain for around €150. My clinic in Spain absolutely would not continue without the mammogram. The mammogram in Spain was organised by them and I paid the mammogram clinic separately. For both the results were available very quickly.

Thanks for your replies @kirstysmbc & @PinkGold

I pushed back on the request from our clinic, but was told it was a non-negotiable request. So they have now arranged on my behalf at a nearby hospital during our visit this Friday, costing €184 for exam & ultrasound. So much cheaper than going to a private hospital here - especially as there isn't one close by.
