IVF Failed Donor Egg cycle

Hi, looking some advise and experiences!

We had 4 donor eggs in total, all 5AA - 5AB and hatching. First transfer was fresh and miscarried at 6 weeks. Our second was frozen and didn’t implant. Our third embryo arrested during thaw. in recent weeks I had another miscarriage, it was our last egg from our donor cycle, FET, we lost it very early couldn’t be located on scan 😞.

has anyone had a failed donor cycle and/or repeated MCs with donated eggs?

almost zero AMH at 35 years old which lead to decision to opt for donor. No issues with sperm…just me! I’m now nearly 39 years old, feeling low and a tad desperate! Really want to do a second cycle but worried about it all.

Hi @HomeHope

I had 6 miscarriages, 3 own egg and 3 donor embryo. I would say that you need to have some further tests before you cycle again. Firstly, I wouldn't assume it isn't sperm related and perhaps have further sperm assessments including DNA fragmentation and karyotyping.

Next I would have some basic implantation and miscarriage testing. Starting with your thryoid, your TSH must be between 1 and 2 to prevent miscarriage and other issues. Don't be fobbed off by the doctor saying 'it's normal' as they will sign off up to TSH 4-5 as normal which it is not for fertility. Have your thyroid tested to see if it is between 1 and 2 and if it is higher, do not cycle until you have taken medication to lower it.

Make sure your uterus has no fibroids or polyps and your lining is adequate. Check clotting issues, e.g. Antiphospholipid Antibodies, Factor V Leiden, Protein C resistance, prothrombin gene mutation, lupus anticoagulant, MTHFR etc

Check no autoimmune issues e.g. rheumatoid factor and anti nuclear antibodies.

The GP can do some of these or you can get them done by a specialist which would be recommended as they can prescribe any meds. if necessary. I was prescribed IVIg, steroids, clexane, high dose b vits and injectible progesterone for my successful 7th cycle.

In the meantime, do consider taking 5mg folate, 1mg B12, 50mg B6 and daily Vit D as these can be very helpful for fertilty.

Best wishes,
C x

Did the clinic do genetic testing between the donor and your DP?
So many miscarriages would suggest genetic/chromossomal anomalies.
Or maybe your thyroid is playng up, and being unable to sustain the pregnancies?

I definitely bears investigation before trying again!
