Hi all. After a very long journey and the recent changes to the IVF rules on the NHS we have been approved for a round of funded IVF! It is highly likely we will need an egg donor as i'm the issue, my husband could repopulate the world it seems with his results. I want to go to the appointment prepared with relevant questions but having never been through the process I don't know really what I should be asking? Can anyone help with what I should ask to get the most out of this appointment please. Thank you x

Hello, you're right it's better to be prepared with all your questions and things you need to be clarified.

The first thing I would say is to order a copy of "It all starts with an egg", it will help you understand the whole process and give you ideas of anything you need to ask your consultant.

Also, i'd ask what's included in this round
Are you going to at least try a couple of rounds of egg collection or go straight to donor egg?
Are you going for short/long protocol?
Are you going to be able to choose your donor (if one is needed?)
How many transfers are you going to do? (be prepared that's is really rare to achieve a positive pregnancy test on first try).

I am sure I have more suggestions, but that's all that comes to mind atm. If I remember something else I will post here again.

Good luck with everything, trust me on this book it will solve all your problems.! Oh actually dunya clinic have an ebook explaining ivf too, and it's free. I will search for the link and message you later today.

Good luck to you x

Thank you so much. I will order a copy of that book and those questions are really helpful. I have just ordered another book I've been recommended - zeta west - The IVF Diet. It's like being in a fog! My husband seems to think I'm the expert just because I'm a woman! Not totally daft about the process from reading so may forums on here and stuff across the internet. My acupuncturist is a fertility specialist so has been really helpful. Feel like paying her to come with me! 😆

Agree with previous poster. With Egg donation like sperm donation you will get a profile of someone who is a potential donor with information about them basic information about what they look like but also their personality, hobbies etc.

If you do need egg donation think carefully and agree with your partner about how you will talk to potential child about how they were conceived as this may be very important to child.

Use the counselling service.

wishing you all the best OP.

fertilitynetworkuk.org/

I found joining this website invaluable when I was going through my IVF. It helped to be able to share with people who got it, as none of my friends did.

Good luck OP 🥰.
