Hi
I'm in the middle of the 2 week wait after the blastocyst transfer last week and took a test this morning despite knowing I should wait another week. I've not been sleeping well and am so worried about it all. The test came out positive. I was delighted however now waiting for a call form the clinic as worried it will be a false positive. Does anyone know what the likelihood is of a false positive, or have anything positive to help with the anxiety over the next week until I test on the 'correct' day?

Relax! I'm in the same position, tested positive after a week and well before official test day.

Remember with IVF you will likely be able to test earlier than a standard pregnancy as you start off with an embryo/ blastocyst that's a few days old. I got a strong positive 1 week post transfer but that's essentially equivalent to 12 days post ovulation and within scope of a lot of early pregnancy tests. Of course a positive test still means you have a way to go and early losses happen but a positive test can only be a good thing. Try and enjoy it!

Thank you - that has hugely helped. I have anxiety generally and I've been doing pretty well with everything up to this point I think. So pleased to find someone else in the same position!

Congratulations. I tested positive 10 days post transfer and it was an immediately a strong positive result. I hadn't tested prior to this but sure it would of been positive earlier.

I have today had my 7 week scan. And found out I am pregnant with twins. This has been a massive shock as we only transfered 1 embryo. Wishing you all the best

Congratulations! That’s really amazing to hear. I did speak to the clinic today who were less reassuring than all of you here and just said there’s a possibility of a false positive and I still need to test next week. I do understand there is a possibility and asked what percentage of early tests are false positives and they had no answers. I imagine is very small but because it does occasionally happen they won’t say. Not very helpful. I think some maths here would be reassuring and am disappointed they can’t give me the stars to ease my mind. However I’m feeling more positive thanks to the community of Mumsnet. It’s great to speak to others a going through the same thing. Amazing about the twins! Good luck

That's amazing news @Donimo! Honestly, twins would both terrify and excite me equally! I am definitely planning on an early scan (I'm actually not sure if my clinic recommend that as standard or not - my original clinic certainly did).

@Dormouse76 - the clinic are being cautious and understandably so. From everything I know there is no such as a false positive in that you only get a positive where there is HCG in your urine and that only happens if you're pregnant. Having said that, you can continue to have HCG in your urine for a while after a pregnancy fails - I took a clearblue digital yesterday which shows how far from conception you are and it was correct, which is a good sign. Again, a positive test is never a bad thing. I think most clinics do a blood HCG test after a positive on Official Test Day which checks the HCG levels are in line with where they should be.

Honestly, it's so stressful isn't it? You spend years in most cases trying to get here and then when it actually goes right you might think it would only be happy feelings but it's so complex. I've never got to the stage of a positive test yet but I'm so use to things going wrong that it's hard not to expect that to continue!

Dormouse76 · 11/12/2021 10:16

@Shroedy exactly that! You want to be want to be excited and really positive but it's like you're not allowed to be as there are so many uncertain factors. I think the issue is the HCG can be in your system due to the fertility drugs you take to get to this point, and the reason they make you wait to test is that those drugs are definitely cleared from your system by their given 'testing day'. I understand the possibility but just wanted to get an idea from the clinic of probability. I realise they're trying to control your emotions and disappointment, but I find the more information I have the less I worry, and the more I can rationalise things. I haven't been offered a blood test, but maybe will be if still positive on Thursday. Fingers crossed. And TY to mumsnetters for giving me the positive vibes - much appreicated!

We're all in the same boat, I know! I am genuinely convinced I won't believe it's real until I (hopefully!) actually have a baby in my arms! I feel like I have to caveat the pregnancy every time with "if it progresses..."

On the basis you're going through donor, I don't think the drugs are relevant - it's the trigger for collection that contains HCG and if you go through stim and a fresh transfer in one cycle then that HCG could still be in your system. If you're doing FET or fresh donor, you aren't using those medications:

Thanks for sharing the article.
I'm still super anxious with just 2 more days to go before officially testing. We did a fresh donor transfer. Really hoping it all works out. Smile

Fingers crossed for you @dormouse!!! Hope all goes well on official test day!

Shroedy · 14/12/2021 08:40

I mean @Dormouse76, obviously! And now I learn that you can't edit or delete posts on here 😂

Donimo · 14/12/2021 08:58

Have you tested again @Dormouse76? Fingers crossed for your official test date!

Dormouse76 · 14/12/2021 15:53

Thanks @donimo Yes, I've done a couple more test... both say positive, one was less strong but I did that early evening and apparently the morning is better (which is when I did the first one), but it was still strong. The other I did a digital one that just said 'Pregnant'. My official test day is Thursday... not long now for this agony to be over!

@Dormouse76 how did testing go today?

Dormouse76 · 16/12/2021 17:29

I've been meaning to post all day... i had an amazing BFP this morning! my partner is delighted (he's been telling me off for testing early) and so are the clinic. It's our first round and we have the scan booked in. It was so hard to hold from testing and I'm so grateful to the mumsnet community for keeping me sane during this time.

Shroedy · 16/12/2021 19:53

Great news!!! It's great to be able to finally feel you can believe it's real, at least a little bit 😂 - When's your scan booked in for?

Dormouse76 · 16/12/2021 22:51

Scan is 6th jan I think.. not too long. I'm not so worried now. It was just agony these last two weeks and am so relieved it's ok 😅
