Starting the process of IVF with donor eggs?

I want to try one more IVF cycle with my own eggs before trying with donnor eggs but I'm starting to look into options for IVF with donor eggs and am not sure where to start.

What is the approx cost in the UK and will this vary much between clinics? It's surprisigly hard to find this info online.

How long would I expect to wait for treatment? I'm wondering whether to have a clinic already lined up or wait until I'm finished the final IVF with my own eggs.

Finally how many visits to the clinic are usually required for a donor egg IVF cycle? There are not many options in Cambridge so I was wondering if I can look further afield as long as it doesn't require too many visits to the clinic for scans etc

I can talk a tiny bit about this from the other side of it helps: we’re literally just starting the process of donating eggs. Haven’t even passed the ‘do you meet the criteria’ stage of testing yet though so it is very very early days.

How long would I expect to wait for treatment?
We were told for our clinic it usually takes between 8-12 weeks to find a match between a recipient and donor. I imagine it depends on your criteria. Eg if you were looking for an East Indian donor with blue eyes and red hair then you’d be waiting a lot longer than if you wanted a Caucasian donor of European decent with any hair/eye colour.

I might be able to help with finding out about costs. I think I remember seeing the pricing, I’ll check now.

Our clinic’s been really good at answering hypothetical questions via email. Could you email your current clinic to ask them your questions?

Hi

I had 5 own cycles of ivf then went for donor egg for my 6th which was successful. This was almost 4 years ago now and we had our treatment at the GCRMin Glasgow. They are part of the fertility partnership now so there are quite a few clinics over the UK.

Cost wise was just under £10k. This was an altruistic donor where we got all the eggs. If you go for egg share it is cheaper. I was on the waiting list for 8 months before we got to choose a donor. We chose our donor end of May and I was pregnant by 2 July. Obviously it was very lucky that we were successful on our first DE attempt but it did happen really quickly.

We live 130 miles away from the clinic so it was 260 mile round trip. As I was the recipient I did not need as many scans as it is just your lining they need to look at. I had my scan on the Friday and egg collection of the donor was on the following Tuesday. Transfer was the Sunday.

Good luck with your next cycle whichever route you choose 😊

I used a frozen egg bank where I got 10 eggs from LWC. So there was no waiting time for us. First attempt ended in miscarriage and second attempt I am 28 weeks. I think the success rates with frozen and fresh eggs is now similar. It was an altruistic donor

Hi, i dont know if you would consider aborad but after failing with ny own eggs at BH Cambridge a couple of times or three, i started researching DE clinics abroad and top of my list came NGC in St Petersburg. The thing that got me was how they offer all technologies inclusive , embryoscope, the time lapse, PGS and the price is still lower than Spain for example...Obvious youd think as it is outside the EU, but the rest of the options were just frustrating in Spain and Greece plus i couldnt choose a donor. I got a non anonymous donor, the process took less than 3 months for first transfer, she gave me 12 eggs and although failed on 1st attempt ( didnt time progesterone that well i think) am now pregnant on second attempt. And very happy. The trip was a dream, the city was better than Paris and the added advantage of the strangeness etc so refreshing, fab hotel and the clinic was with me with transfers, help on whattsup and seriously lots of support.

I strongly recommend!!!! Doc was a strong support rock, i cant thank her enough! DM me.if you need more info.

@Celeste77 do you mind me asking you how you were able to choose the egg donor? Was it a database or were you matched first? I read you can see adult profiles? Thanks

Celeste77 · 31/12/2021 12:23

Hi @everhopeful41 i did this from home!! I saw baby pictures and extended profiles first and then when i enquired they offered a password and i got in the database with adult photos too, for free. I then made a list of 10 donors and they told me if they were available and when!! I got my second choice! I actually had a go at more than 25!! It was definitely a fun and at same time stressful process as it is so important but clinic made it easy, id immediately whattsup to family and we got a vote down and same whattsup to coordinator and get an answer!!
