Using a donor and home insemination

I am looking for some guidance really as me and my female fiance are very soon about to start trying for a baby. We have our own donor and are not going through a clinic. I have been tracking my periods since January now but I am not really sure what time of the month is best to inseminate.

Also can anyone tell me how much time we have after he has ejaculated to getting the sperm inside me?

Can anyone recommend any pre pregnancy medication that will help.

We are super excited and it all feels really now. I am meeting him at the weekend to talk further.

Any other advice would be much appreciated.

Hello, sorry I can't help in any further advice I was just wanting to tag on as I am literally in the same stage now, I'm meeting him this weekend as next week is my bingo week 😬
Been waiting 8 yrs for this and now it's here! It all seems real and suddenly possible, I'm using a known donor to, I believe it's about half an hour from when he's ejaculated to when you do it, but please don't count me on that as my brain seems to have gone completely now lol 😂 last minute nerves
I still have a few more bits to sort but just wanted to say best of luck!!!!

smileygirl1995 · 14/05/2021 11:12

Had my first insemination last night, completely crapping my pants the whole time but made me feel so at ease, now I'm just trying to work out if I have time or need to do another one before the end of my fertile window and it's to late. 😬

I hope you got round to meeting your donor in the end....?

Feel free to message me anymore questions :) best fo luck! Xx

smileygirl1995 · 16/07/2021 01:27

How are you getting on? Did you have any luck? Xx

itsharderthanithought89 · 16/07/2021 01:46

The app MAYBE BABY worked for me both times and was actually successful in determining sex.

This may not be for you but can be used for conception anyhow.

Pre-Ovulation - more likely to have a girl but slightly less chance in falling pregnant

Post - ovulation vice versa!

Good luck

And don't worry about testing early I never got my BFP until 15 dpo!

Make sure you buy the cheap strip tests of Amazon if you're going to be testing a lot xx

Sorry for jumping into this I was just looking online and came across this post.

I myself am trying to conceive through donor sperm but I am also trying to avoid the whole over expense of a clinic.

“smileygirl1995” - if you don’t mind me asking, where did you manage to find your donor please? Is it someone you know personally or did you meet them online? If so, PLEASE can you send through a link….. I am searching but jot had much luck looking online or the fact that I could even trust them. Maybe you could advise?? Please?

Good luck you everyone ttc….. Halo

My current attempts with at home insemination resulted in my ten week old :) if anyone wants any info just let me know x

neverthatsimple · 16/10/2021 12:27

@Limegreentangerine, are you based in the UK?
I could do with any/all information you can offer to me please in regards to home insemination, I think I’ve decided this is the best route to ttc… I would be most grateful. Flowers
Congratulations on your 10 week old!! Halo

Limegreentangerine · 16/10/2021 13:46

@neverthatsimple yes! Based in the south of the UK! So we actually joined a couple of groups on social media (although these are not regulated source you can see reviews from other couples and STI results etc etc ) started chatting to a few donors on there ( took a while to chat through which he completely respected as it's a big choice ) selected one and then began the process .

To start with I tracked my ovulation testing twice daily and as soon as I got closer to the lines being "peak" I invited the donor round ,we did actually have him round most of the fertile days including day of ovulation as our donor was only 20 mins away , I provided him with a sterile pot and had ordered a 10cm flat headed syringe from Amazon and as soon as he was done we let the Sperm liquify in the warm area of my armpit in the jar until it was slightly runny then sucked up the sperm into the syringe and pushed it as close to my cervix as it would go then slowly pushed it in :) it's also advised to have an orgasm afters just to help suck the sperm up to where it's needed . We did our donations close to bed time as I figured gravity wouldn't be an issue!
Also I drank 2 liters of water everyday and took conceive plus ovulation support and it worked on the 3rd go ! Best of luck to you and if there's any more questions I'll try to help you :)

@Limegreentangerine…. So I took a leaf out of your books. I found a donor, I inseminated twice during my fertile window for extra credit 🤣🤷🏽‍♀️ Fertile window was 26.12.21-01.01.21 so I inseminated on 27.12 & 31.12…. 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️ Now in ttc period and I am experiencing some indications. But always so difficult as very similar to pre period symptoms. I normally suffer with lower back pain during period but usually NEVER 2 weeks before period and no, I didn’t sleep it sit funny 🤣🤦🏽‍♀️.
Just waiting now…. The suspense is killing me. I’m trying hard not to think about it but it’s really hard…. 😔

smileygirl1995 · 06/01/2022 14:56

Sorry just logged on to this to post and seen all these comments, sorry @Birchkelly seem to be overtaking the post 🙈
So @neverthatsimple I used a donor who I didn't know from a Facebook group basically, probably not the way most would go but for me and many others it works :)
I follow a recipients page and a donors page the recipient one allows for people to give there experience with certain donors which sieves out the...unsavoury types of people shall we say.
It took me 8 months for it to catch and 3 donors I'm now 7 weeks and 2 days 😬

If you haven't I would suggest investing in some good ovulation tests I personally used the easy at home tests and the Premom app to go with it, I have a long cycle so for me they took a lot of weight off my shoulders and stopped me stressing about timings.
I did a few days before peak, then peak day and the day after peak, your peak is your body telling you it's released an egg or gearing upto there's a big window after that of when the egg actually is released it could be 6 hrs it could be 48 hrs :)
I am no expert I've just read a lot of forums and websites and found what worked for me
I did 3 attempts this month and it worked the times before that was 1 or 2 each month and both donors were older.
:) good luck!!!! Xx

neverthatsimple · 06/01/2022 16:25

@ smileygirl1995…. Firstly congratulations on your nana…. 🌈👶 exciting times… as i mentioned I am experiencing a lot of symptoms I don’t normally expletive after ovulation/before my period. I think the motion sickness and twinges for me now are the worst… I stupidly took a test yesterday which was negative but may have been too early… either that or im driving myself so stir crazy my body is now manifesting symptoms I can’t stop think about!!! Just another week to wait without trying to test….Confused

Let’s just wait and see….. congratulations again!!!! I totally KNEW 2022 would be a year to remember!! Baby dust to everyone 🌈👶🏽💃🏽💃🏽💯🥰🥰🥳🥳😘

neverthatsimple · 06/01/2022 16:29

@smileygirl1995, CLEARLY I meant congratulations on your BABA!!!! Not nana… iPhone and their predicted text AngryGrin

I’m saying that, maybe I should have reviewed before I sent it HmmSmile

smileygirl1995 · 06/01/2022 19:31

Aww bless you thank you! I have my first appointment next week, it's getting real now and starting to set in that this is actually happening, I thought the two week wait was the hardest but this is even harder!

Don't go stressing and looking for symptoms it's still very early, I didn't have any proper symptoms till at least 1-2 weeks after my missed period, no implantation bleeding either which I was so convinced on looking for.
Was shocked to actually find out it was positive, and took a full week and boxes of tests to actually believe it haha 😆 xx

smileygirl1995 · 12/01/2022 00:23

Any news yet @neverthatsimple ?? 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 xx

neverthatsimple · 12/01/2022 08:39

@smileygirl1995 - I know. Just feel like I have been driving myself crazy. I stopped testing thinking I will see early results and stopped looking for symptoms, resided it’s just not really worth it…. I need my sanity more (what’s left of it….)

AF due on Friday, might still be in the running but just a waiting game right now….

Thanks for asking….

As soon as I know what’s “happening” I’ll update the post!

Been reading a lot of forum posts like this (before I ceased all googling of course!) and it’s really annoying when you find one you can really relate too, commit to reading the trail of the whole post only to find it finishes before you get to find out what happens. 😡

It’s like watching a really good series that ends in a cliffhanger then finding out it’s been cancelled and you will NEVER know what happens…,, 😡🤦🏽‍♀️🤣

How is your pregnancy coming along? Hopefully all is progressing as it should! 🙏🏽
Did you have your first appointment yet?
Sooooo exciting….. 🌈👶💯

DallyD · 27/01/2022 21:11

Hello everyone. Just came across this post, hope you dont mind my comment. I'm in a same sex relationship and my partner got pregnant (via ai from a donor we found on just a baby app) last feb but had MMC april. Just had our 7th attempt since the MMC and finally got our BFP, will be 4 weeks tomorrow.
