PGS or Donor Eggs

I'm 41 and have had three miscarriages, I've been told that my options are IVF with PGS testing, or to move to ICSI with donor eggs. Part of me feels like I have been trying for a long time (seven years) with my own eggs and PGS is a very expensive way to be told my eggs are no good. I wondered if anyone has gone to donor eggs, without trying IVF with their own eggs first?

We had many rounds of ivf with own eggs with no success. We then moved to donar eggs and it worked first time each time. Best decision we ever made

Hi @NotMyDayJob - just to say I have had two missed miscarriages and two chemical pregnancies from IVF. Doctors kept saying likely to be genetic from old eggs (I’m 40 now) and so I decided to have PGS on doctors advice and the results from my round are 5 of the 7 blastocysts are genetically normal. So that tells me something else is going on for me. Not an answer, but wanted to share my experience.

@shamoo that's a really good point, I've been told everything looks good and all the tests have come back normal but obviously something is going on. My miscarriages were all in a very short period of time and I've had no pregnancies in a year so it is possible something else is going on

We went straight for donor eggs as I have a genetic condition that is undiagnosed and therefore pre implantation selection was not possible. We had a chance to take a chance and just get pregnant and see what happens or go straight for a de. We chose the latter and don't regret it at all. My boy is the best thing that has ever happened to me. We both adore him.xx

Thank you. I do feel like I need to take a chance. We've been trying for a long time and I'm near the end of the line. If we do PGS there will always be donor eggs and the time it takes and the effort, in not sure i can do it. I'm glad it worked for you, congratulations on your boy x

My personal view was that I just wanted my baby to arrive and for my family to be complete - and I certainly wasn’t going to put myself and my husband through low chance rounds of IVF etc for the sake of one cell. And I am so, so glad that we made that decision.

I know I am a bit of an odd one out with this view, particularly as I was young and occasionally ovulating still, buuuuut I guess I am just odd 😆

My personal view was that I just wanted my baby to arrive and for my family to be complete - and I certainly wasn’t going to put myself and my husband through low chance rounds of IVF etc for the sake of one cell. And I am so, so glad that we made that decision.

Thanks for commenting! Yes we have decided to proceed with donor eggs. You don't sound odd, if it was the right decision in your particular circumstances. There's no guarantee with pgs testing there'll be a 'good' embryo at the end of it and I only have one useable ovary so my chances are reduced with any IVF with my own eggs

Sadly, there are no guarantees with any type of IVF, but the gift of donor eggs can certainly tip the scales.

Hi, I do not have a personal experience, but a very dear friend of mine did donor eggs at 40, very low AMH and never did IVF, for the low chances. She also got pregnant on the very first try! Did the treatment abroad to limit the costs too. Sorry that not sharing my personal experience, but my friend is like a sis to me and got the permission to share her story:-)

NotMyDayJob...Have you considered a tandem cycle? Testing is always beneficial particularly if you can learn of any chromosomal abnormalities which may result in an unsuccessful transfer. Feel free to PM me I might be able to help you in terms of getting the right treatment. Loving the user name by the way!

Thank you, I actually did use donor eggs and am in my first cycle with that, but thank you for your suggestion :)

Hi ladies,
I’m about to begin treatment for donor eggs. Chosen my donor, have meeting with dr on the 26th, then I guess I start taking the drugs.
I am going to London for a friends birthday this weekend, can I risk drinking alcohol?
What did you guys do to prepare for it all?
I’m eating well. Keeping fit. Only drinking decaf and very little of that. Taking vitamins etc. Going to start castor oil packing next week. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
