How to prep for donor egg IVF

We've been matched with a donor and can start ASAP! Totally shocked! Looking to do this in 7 weeks during easter holidays but is this too soon?

Should we give ourselves 3 months prep?

That’s fantastic news, so exciting!

My clinic didn’t say that I needed to prep for that long, but I suppose it depends on your lifestyle? If you’re generally healthy and don’t have ‘bad’ habits (smoking, drinking, etc) I don’t see why you would need three months prep :)

Hi egg

To be honest it's been Christmas so we've both drank a bit more than normal, then my birthday... a few cigarettes have been smoked, I could do with losing some weight etc etc. Supplement regime not 100% as it should be...

It's 7 weeks prep vs 12 weeks - not sure!

Well, I suppose it’s up to you really! I guess it depends on if you would feel like a failed cycle would be because of this (not that it would really!)

For my first fresh round, I lived like a saint for months beforehand and it ended in a MMC

For my FET round, I lived as normal for about a month beforehand (so drinking, eating what I wanted etc but not to excess) and it resulted in my current pregnancy

So who knows! At the time I did ask my clinic if I should delay my FET due to my behaviour and they said not to worry and just to stop when treatment started

7 weeks seems long enough for me (longer than I did anyway haha) but maybe speak to your clinic?

Thanks egg I think we should just go for it! The timings go well with easter holidays so not disruptive for my son's school.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! 😍

Beyond taking folic acid supplements and not touching another cigarette you shouldn’t really need to prep. Just go for it.

Cutesbabasmummy · 17/02/2020 20:00

The cigarette was stupid but I had a double gun and a sangria the night before my FET with a donor egg. The baby has just turned 5.

EarlGreyT · 17/02/2020 22:07

I did nothing beyond taking folic acid. I had a drink the night before some of my FETs, couldn’t tell you which ones.

Even after my last transfer my only instructions were not to overheat (we were going on holiday), not to smoke (I don’t) and not to have sex until after the PT. I questioned the advice and said “and presumably no alcohol?” The consultant specifically told me it was fine to have 1 or 2 drinks a day, but not loads AFTER the transfer and that I should enjoy my holiday.

I don’t see why you would need 3 months prep for a donor cycle, but your partner might in order to improve his sperm quality if his lifestyle has been terrible and he has for example been drinking a lot or smoking, but if he hasn’t been doing either of these things then just go for it when it suits you.

Thank you Earl for your reply.

DH's lifestyle has been really healthy since beginning of year - regular exercise, lots of smoothies, religiously takes supplements, sticking to alcohol units, etc etc! We have Male factor so he conscious of 'being good'. We've even been trying naturally (his suggestion even tho I think it's pointless 🙄)

Just to add DH is healthy all the time, not just since beginning of year ☺️
