Donor treatment with high BMI

Hello,

Are there any clinics that will do donor insemination for someone with a higher BMI? I would expect to be looking at IUI as no known issues and would prefer UK but if it's only possible in Europe then so be it.

Thank you

AFAIK private clinics tend to have a BMI cut-off of 35 - I don't know for sure whether that's for IUI as well as IVF but I would imagine it is.

You might find a little flexibility with IUI compared to IVF in some UK clinics, I know some will do IUI if you're BMI is 36-38 rather than the usual 35 cut off for IVF. It will depend if they can visualise everything clearly during scans too as that can make things tricky

Thank you

Do you know which will? The ones that seem to mention BMI on website have the 35 cut off. East Midlands or the North West would be easiest.

To be honest most will want you under 30 but will advertise as a limit of 35 so I don't think you will find any that will advertise more flexibility with it, you may have to ask around or speak to a few clinics directly, the people I know who had IUI with a higher BMI were often returning patients after successful treatment or people who had weight gain after the initial consultation.

I would just call a few and ask if they are flexible with it, it's usually at the Doctors discretion too as they will take into account lifestyle, BP and general health etc so you may not even get an answer either way before you have a consultation

I had a high BMI (mid thirties, it appears from an online calculator) and it was never raised as an issue either by my consultant in the UK or at the clinic which admittedly was not in the UK - IM in Barcelona.

hi op

just wanted to say CRGW in cardiff will go upto 40 on bmi but mostly look at your lifestyle and fitness vs trad height vs weight- im quite muscular but also big so most places responded with an automatic no- its worth a shot giving them a call- very friendly and helpful.

Most clinics only accept high BMI if it comes with high egg reserve in the way of PCOS, and even then for any drugs you will need to be under 30 BMI. IUI overall is about as effective as a turkey baster / moon cup (my consultant’s words not mine!), so if you know your donor you could just use those methods while you lose weight.

www.reproductivehealthgroup.co.uk/locations/centre-for-reproductive-health/ in Daresbury near Warrington don’t have a BMI cut off I don’t think.
