Positive IVF stories over 40 after miscarriage

So I’m 41 (eek), single and started IVF in the summer. I was super excited to get pregnant first time. Immediately I started picking names, looking at cute outfits and so on. At my first scan it became apparent something was wrong. Two more scans (at my fab local EPU) confirmed a MMC. I chose to have an ERPC at around 11 weeks and recovered well from this.

The weird thing is I haven’t cried. I think because of my age I almost assumed this would not work. I’m going back to my consultant tomorrow to understand next steps.

Everything I read online looks so bleak so would be great to hear some positive stories whether single or not. I have just one embryo frozen so high hopes for this. I have enough saved for one more round as blimey it’s expensive.

Sorry to hear of your loss Flowers. I had a MMC at age 40 on my second IVF. I was pregnant again 3 months later after third IVF. Gave birth to dd aged 41. I never had any embryos to freeze but did get 3 embryos put in on second and third attempts. Good luck. It is really tough going but it can work.

Should also add that I have endometriosis and had an ectopic pregnancy before starting IVF so odds were against me.

Sorry to hear about your MMC Flowers. I hope your meeting with your consultant was positive.

If it gives you any encouragement, I've had 2 DC via IVF - both when I was over 40. So it is possible.

Wishing you all the best.

I had multiple miscarriages despite conceiving fairly easily. At the recurrent miscarriage clinic they said it was likely due to my egg quality (age 43) so we went down the donor egg route. I had a fresh cycle and had our son at 45 and 2 frozen embryos put in the freezer. I had both put back and had my daughter age 47. I found my miscarriages quite traumatic as I was desperate to be a mother and each time it happened seemed to make that less and less likely.

My children are amazing (and very tiring at 3.5 and 2 Grin ).......I thank my lucky stars and our egg donor every day.

Good luck
