Success with second child using same sperm donor

Hello,

I was luckily enough to have a child last year using non medicated iui with donor sperm.

I am starting to think of trying for a second child using the same sperm donor and it would be great to hear from people who have done this successfully.

Did you take many tries to get pregnant the second time? Was it emotionally any easier waiting for bfp?
Do they look alike? Do you think they have comfort from knowing they are full siblings? What did family/ friends think? Were they supportive?

And any other useful things to know

Thank you xxxxx

Hi,
I can't really answer your points but just thought I'd say hi.

I am in a same sex relationship and we had our son via IUI with donor sperm 5years ago. My wife carried him and she conceived on the first try. ( PCOS ,non medicated cycle but we used a hcg trigger shot )

Now we are ttc number 2. This time I'm hoping to conceive. I have no medical issues and have always had regular cycles etc

First try was a monitored natural cycle... BFN
Second try was a natural cycle with no monitoring.. BFN
We are having our 3rd IUI tomorrow. Monitored cycle with an HCG trigger. Folicle was 16mm on Saturday. Triggered last night ( sunday) and having the IUI 2mo on CD14.

Really hoping this one works as we only bought 6 units of sperm. Used one to get our son and now 3 more for me. If this one fails we will have no choice but to wait , save up again and have IVF.

It's so important that our children are related.

Emotional wise... It's been tougher for us this time as we have had to experience failure...

Are you thinking of trying again soon?

Xxx

No personal experience, but one of my oldest friends did this successfully. She has two DC from the same donor - they're technically twins as from the same batch, so to speak, but born 18 months apart.

Brother and sister. They do look alike, and there are definite similarities in aspects of their personality, as well.

It was important to DF that her DC be full siblings, as it would be unlikely that they'd know their father.

Her family and good friends have been very supportive.

Wishing you all the best, and hope some more people with direct experience come along to comment soon. Thanks

We did but increased chances of success with ivf second time. We wanted to know our children always had a 100% sibling match genetically. We were limited with sperm samples also. Took 1 ivf cycle but 5 iui cycles for older daughter

Neither are old enough to be told yet. They do look alike but also different in other ways.

@Treasureinmytummy I am almost 12 weeks pregnant with my second, my daughter is 3 and a half, and they will be (all being well) full siblings - same sperm donor. I had medicated IUI the first time, but had to have IVF this time for reasons that I won't go into, but luckily it worked the first time with FET.

It hasn't really sunk in yet, and as my 12 week scan looms I'm feeling rather anxious about telling people for fear that they'll think I'm being greedy! I know thats a bit weird, but can't help it !
