Lesbian Couple Trying to Conceive

Hi,

We are looking for some help/advice/support.

We are a married same sex couple and trying to conceive.

We registered at our local fertility clinic July 2017, however after our initial appointment (and paying the initial fee) we were told my wife was a little 'too heavy' to have the treatment at present. She was 31 BMI and they said she had to be under 30. We have attempted to diet, use the gym and even consulted with the GP (who basically accused us of lying). After a difficult year of trying and in fact gaining slightly more weight (BMI is now 32).

We have tried two months of home insemination ordering from Cryos, however due to the change in laws this is no longer possible.

So we are a year on and it seems our year has been slightly obsessed with attempting to try for a baby.

Has anyone had anything similar, or concerns with weight, or suggestions for moving forward. We have looked into something like a sperm donor off co-parent, but this does seem right for us.

Thanks in advanced,

Sarah and Louise

Hello!

A few thoughts in no particular order...

Some fertility clinics use a cut off of 35 for BMI rather than 30 - so, you could look into whether you'd prefer to work with a different clinic.

The plot has thickened a bit with Cryos and it looks as though it maaaaay still be possible to order from them. They're being very cagey about where they're delivering from, and to be honest I'm pretty hacked off with how they've handled this whole thing, but it's worth looking into whether it's possible still.

I'd also suggest speaking with a different GP. If your wife has truly given it her all and been unable to lose weight, I'd say this warrants looking into further, especially because there could be fertility implications to some of the possible reasons that might be happening.

Good luck to you both!
