TTC through Donor IUI or Donor IVF - weight loss spin-off thread

A few of us on the donor IUI/IVF thread have got some weight to lose, and rather than bore everyone else we thought we'd set up a spin-off thread. So, if you're doing or contemplating donor IUI/IVF and also have some weight to lose, join us here, newbies welcome.

I guess we do introductions/goals? I'll start, but obviously share whatever you prefer in your intro.

I'm witch, froze some embryos last year with donor sperm which are waiting for me to save up enough to fund a career change post baby. I'm fortunate in that I don't have loads and loads of weight to lose, but enough that I could so with some supportive friends to do it with.

I don't really like the idea of dieting per se, I think my aim is more around establishing a healthier relationship with food. I read Fat is a Feminist Issue years ago and I probably need to re-read it again now - it's about women's relationship with food. I'd recommend it, or a much condensed book by the same author, Susie Orbach, called On Eating.

My weight has fluctuated over the years, but the band it's fluctuating within is only trending in one direction. This is almost the heaviest I've ever been, I'm too fat for my fat clothes, and my thighs are getting in the way of each other. In BMI terms I'm a little way into the overweight category, but I carry it all on my stomach so I'm quite a way over the recommended maximum waist measurement. I have been offered a seat on the tube and on one occasion asked if it was my first baby Grin

The numbers aren't the be all and end all - for me that point is that I am at this weight because I don't prioritise sleep and activity and compensate with carbs and caffeine! And for some other more psychological reasons which I'll get to, but this is already the longest intro in history.

I'm going to take Saturday as my starting point:
5'9"/1.75m
12st10.5lb/81kg
BMI 26.4
Waist 36"/91cm
Targets, let's see, but I'm guessing somewhere south of 11st/70kg - I'll head in that direction and see how I feel. I'll never be right at the bottom end of the BMI range, I'm broad!

Eating wise - I'm cutting back on high glycemic index carbs and trying to get some more protein in. I know I feel better and less hungry when I'm not struggling from one sugar rush then crash to the next.

Hey ladies - I'm struggling this week again. Sooooo tired. I think trying to do a course on top of working full time, being a single mum and ttc was maaaaaaaybe a bad idea lol. Need to start going to bed earlier and getting up to exercise earlier!

On the Vit D situ - mine was massively low and I started using this: BetterYou It's basically topped me right up and made a huge difference (my levels were tested by an endocronologist) Highly recommended.

Disastrous week for me, my eating is all over the place when I'm tired.

Anyway, 79 kg, which is 2 kg less than when I started but also 2kg more than a couple of days in the last fortnight.

This week will be a good week!

Well this week will be. Except for today when I ate everything I could get my hands on. I did give blood, but really that excuse ran out after the first snack!

Ah I hate it when your that hungry 😔 hopefully it'll even out over the week.

I'm going to attempt to eat less sugar especially during 2week of injections and tww(+my extra 4days wait because of injections) not too worried about the fat contents and have even made things like leek and cheese sauce and this cauliflower and broccoli with pasta and cheese sauce so that I'm increasing my dairy- just have to be careful it doesn't make ibs worse as only real dairy I can tolerate is natural low fat (so very watery) yoghurt but anything for my little eggs 🍳.....

Aww I hope if you build it up gradually @pickle162 it will be fine. So many things to think about in the next few weeks hard to think about food as well. I say as I am off to the local chocolate cafe

Definitely bear I don't think I'll be able to concentrate on anything much for next month
I've just eaten 6 meringue nests (only 53cals each) but wanted them out of the house
I've made loads of dinners so freezer is stocked with lots of quick to reheat homemade things
Enjoy your trip to the chocolate cafe 😋

He ridiculous thing was I wasn't hungry, I was just like ooh, look at the lovely food, munch munch.

I don't know whether to be sad or grateful that I don't live near a chocolate cafe!

Pickle, I didn't realise about the dairy! There was dairy in quite a lot of the food last weekend. Even my fairly tolerant system was a bit out out by all the food so yours was probably suffering. I'm going to hope I helped your eggs anyway Grin

Did you not see my food baby tummy come out? Yummy food I will take my chances on. So much food that makes me in pain and bloat, I take a bit of Russian roulette every day. I barely get any calcium in my diet as I hate milk and it hates me. I've tried all the alternatives and they don't give me the pain but have rather unfortunate side effects with them after a few minutes I have to run to the toilet. Cheese I'm not toooo bad with and watery yogurt so I try and get dairy when I can

kwick · 30/04/2017 15:58

@pickle162 I consulted my Mum (knows everything about nutrition) and she says go for organic soya or oat milk for calcium.
Or do what she did when pregnant with me and grind up egg shells and consume powder... only check eggs have not been dipped in arsenic Confused

Had a crap lunch at the Farmers Market - don't you just hate that - when you waste calories on food that is not particularly nice.

If I was a magician we'd all be thin.

Would come as a bit of a surprise though if I suddenly gained magical powers and we all shrank. Your clothes would suddenly look funny 😂
