Wedding anniversary weirdness

It would have been my wedding anniversary today, if ExH hadn't been such a dick.

I'm really not sure how I feel, a bit of nostalgia, a bit of sadness, some anger for what he's done since and a lot of relief and gratitude that I'm not with him now.

He's been completely out of my life for a few years now, he's left me + our DD in his past and I generally don't give him a moment's thought but when I saw the date it just hit me a bit.

Roll on tomorrow and I won't have to think about him for another year hopefully!

I emphasise. He must have meant something to you once and you have a child together

Aw I feel for you OP, Its almost like grieving what could have been in an ideal world. I have moments like this about my ex too, despite him having been extremely abusive towards me. It's strange what the mind can do. Then when that moment passes I remember how lucky I am to be free of him and not live a life under his control. It's wonderful.

It's good to process the emotion and move on like you are doing, instead of rejecting and depressing it as it only makes you feel worse in the long run. Roll on tomorrow, it's a new day, and you're doing wonderfully as a mother to your DD, I'm sure. She will always know it is you who stayed.

I get that as well. My own anniversary date was a "memorable" date, that lots of people commemt on, as well as being a good friends birthday ... and every year its like a slap in the face.

I feel like this on what would have been my wedding anniversary too, I don't think the date will ever leave my mind. On your wedding day you are so happy and you think you've got your future mapped out, life partner etc. It's hard to just forget especially when you are raising their children and they just blew your lives apart because they could. Sending hugs

Its a strange one. For me personally id already checked out of our marriage years before the split so already didn't celebrate our anniversary etc. But we eventually did split earlier this year and his parents gave me a card and flowers on what would have been our wedding anniversary date. This upset me alot and i dont understand why they did it . I hope it wont be an ongoing thing!

I've got a friend who got married the same day, and they're still happily together so I try to avoid Facebook!

Thank you, sending hugs back when your 'special' day comes...

Oh god that's rough! We told his parents we were separating about 3 weeks before our anniversary + the MIL was upset as she'd already bought our card! Hopefully yours will be more understanding next year!
