Divorce finalised yesterday.

After a 35 year marriage my divorce was finalised yesterday.
We have been living separately for two years, but I feel weird - not sad or happy. I suppose reflective and optimistic 🤷‍♀️

I would like to mark it somehow. Any thoughts or ideas of what you did in this situation?
I will change my name soon I think.
Thanks for reading 🌟

I'm sorry to hear that. It's always an odd feeling when something comes to an end and you don't feel the way you thought you would.

I'm also divorced (25 years ago after about 15 years together) and I remember feeling it was all a bit anti-climactic. I didn't really feel anything; no sense of closure, relief, or sadness. I've never regretted the divorce as we had grown apart and he could be very unpleasant, but I suppose I was vaguely sorry that it had ended, even if just for our DCs sake.

I'm very happy all these years later, and I don't think I did anything much. How about buying yourself a nice piece of jewellery to mark your new start?

Hopefully be in the same boat soon, mines been going on 4 years. My situation might be different from yours but my divorce has been marred by a lot of post separation emotional and financial abuse so it’s going to be a celebration for me. I’m envisioning anything self care related - spa day or similar with my friends, booking a well deserved holiday with my kids, maybe a 2 night solo getaway just for me somewhere totally rural and relaxing, treat myself to a nice haircut/nails done, solo date to restaurant or cinema or something like these. New tattoo if you’re into things like that?

Gosh, that's a life time. Perhaps a night in or cosy meal with a friend or two who went through it with you and then something to mark the start of your new chapter. It depends on what makes you happy: a fun adventure or a change in your life/ hair/ hobbies/ whatever. I always think that a party doesn't do full respect to a bond that lasted a long time and someone you loved once ( unless they were a complete dick)

You are an inspiration for many women in the trenches of shit relationships right now. Please share what you decide on and how it went x

Hi. Can I ask why divorce after 35 years ? What was the final trigger?
Your choice presumably?
Adult children?
X

I changed my name back literally the day after I got him out (25 years married, he cheated). I got my nose pierced, lol. Had the girls round. Redecorated my house (I kept the house). Enjoy op. It’s the start of the rest of your life.
