Hi,
My husband has just torn up the paperwork for our new house that we are buying. He called me a fat see you next tuesday. Said he's sick of me. We share an 8 year old and I have a 14 year old whose Dad died suddenly in February.
I'm not sure what to do next?

If you got married to your new husband after feb when your first husband died it should only be a short marriage. So you should be fine you can do this xx

Why do you think they are recently married? They have an 8 year old child!

Clearly she didn’t meet and then marry her new husband after the passing of her ex in Feb fgs.

OP- what caused the argument? What is the relationship like normally?

TheSnappyRaven · 22/07/2026 00:13

The relationship is usually ok but he does drink often and can be mean when he's had a drink. He was mad because I was on the phone to my friend who he doesn't like and my youngest was still awake at 10.30. However, he was happy for her to stay up until nearly midnight on a school night when he was in charge.
It did happen, he can be really nasty when he has had a drink.

Get the hell out of this situation. He sounds like a nasty bastard who has no respect for you. You’re better than this and you don’t want your children witnessing you tolerate this unacceptable behaviour.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 22/07/2026 00:18

Documents can be reprinted etc.

However

do you really want to buy a new house with an aggressive husband who cannot hold his drink.

Are you currently renting or selling your current house - either way this could / would be the ideal time to start a divorce and split up.

millymollymoomoo · 22/07/2026 08:05

What to do next ?

go online and start divorce
make an appointment with a solicitor to get some advice of steps and process etc
Tell your husband you’re filing for divorce
do not proceed with house purchase

TheSnappyRaven · 22/07/2026 12:06

We are currently selling our house. Our buyers have no chain so I'm hoping it will be done quickly. I think I will rent for a few months and get my ducks in a row before buying on my own.
Thank you for the replies.

He has shown you who he is and there are things that once said can not be un-said. You should try and leave him. Protect your peace and your 8 year old from living in an environment like this. If you can’t do it immediately start to make a plan.

Jk987 · 26/07/2026 16:37

This is awful. Was he drunk when he said that ? Priority is your children and cushioning them from the turmoil. Do you have to work tomorrow? Can you take a few days off and go and stay at your Mums with the kids?
