My ex and I divorced last year but had been separated for a couple of years before that. He quit his UK job when I applied for child maintenance and moved to his home country. He has been claiming to be unemployed and living with his mum for a few years now, and declared this in court during divorce/financial proceedings.
However, DD overheard a conversation where he discussed a move to Dubai, this was about two years ago. I believe he has since moved there because his forwarded emails to me since last year always show a timezone that is 4 hours ahead and UAE's is. He recently flew to visit our daughter, and he came from Dubai, as his landing time matched the only available flight arrival time.
DD also said that when she visited him at his family's house during his UK stay, he was in work meetings during weekdays while she was on shcool half term.
On LinkedIn, although he has not declared new employment, he engages with one particular US organisation based in Dubai and regularly likes their posts. Also, a Dubai recruitment site lists him as being based in the UAE.
We have a financial order that requires him to inform me of any change in income and employment status and to pay child maintenance in line with his international circumstances and rate relevant to his country of employment. I emailed him last week asking for child maintenance, and he replied a week later stating that he is unemployed and still living in his home country with his mum.
I know this isn't true. I am aware that Dubai has no reciprocal enforcement arrangement with the UK, so UK court orders cannot be enforced there. I was considering applying directly to a Dubai court, but I do not want to do this blindly with no concrete information, and at the same time he will never disclose his workplace or finances. His family are concealing his whereabouts also. Solicitors are very expensive and I don't want to be throwing money away.
I feel stuck and don't know what to do next. He will never return to the UK so pursuing him here would be pointless.
