Please Advise!!

Hi all,

I am not sure what to do now, please advise.

My ex and I recently separated, he has been abusive for a while but I managed to escape and now in a refuge with our kids. He wants my and the kids stuff out of his house by tomorrow or be get rid. My assigned officer who can escort me to collect is not able to until Monday. I have called to get help from a different officer but told they can’t and that I can call 999 if things get out of hand. I don’t feel safe getting my stuff without being escorted. Do I just give up on my belongings? I am just too stressed to think straight.

Any advise please!

Do you have anyone male who could come with you at all? Or failing that, even if there’s two or three adult women he might be better behaved

I am going with my sister who he has already insulted several times and doesn’t now feel comfortable being there. And then a van man, that’s it. I was advised by my key worker not to go there without the police for protection. I feel stuck now.

If you have a van worth of stuff to collect, I doubt he will put the effort into getting rid of it all. However people can be stupid and petty if they think they will get away with it.

Legally he cannot just get rid of your things without notice or a liability. He can give you fair warning to remove the items. After which he sell them off and give you the value of the goods.

Do you have access to a solicitor or someone who can communicate to him that he will be acting unlawfully if “he throws” away your stuff. And that you would consider this a further act of harassment and abuse against you and the children.

Do you have a list of the items you will be collecting?
