Financials timing

Well I was hoping to be able to get the financials agreed before I am allowed to click the 'yes please finalise the divorce' button. I have been advised that the courts are so overwhelmed that they are taking a minimum of 4 weeks to ensure the paperwork is accurate and then 10-12 weeks to seal them if the court agrees it is fair.

So for anyone else waiting I feel for you.

My ex is already engaged - he's going to have to postpone his wedding!

Don’t finalize without the financials in place. You lose all leverage.

I wasn't intending on finalising before. Although I'm the one paying him, not vice versa so I couldn't care less if he 'lost his leverage'. I'd still have more to lose as he simply moved into his fiancée home, didn't buy as he said he would.

I'm merely incredibly frustrated I'm waiting. Would like to be rid of the cheater.

Mine took just under a month in November. I'd be surprised if the courts were so overwhelmed it's added an extra 3 months on to that since then

trailblazer42 · 12/01/2026 23:15

My partner did his in October/November and it went through in just under four weeks. Mine was submitted last week and the solicitor said up to 10 weeks but I hope it will be sooner. Already had to wait an extra three weeks for the pension scheme to agree it.

The pension sharing is a long process!

It'll depend on the court and the time of year. Apparently January is 'divorce month'.

My consent order was submitted to court about 10 days ago. I was hoping for a 4 week turn around.......

Do you have any pension involvement? If not hopefully it goes through quicker for you.

No, we are keeping own pensions and kids are older so pretty straight forward. We are using amicable so no solicitors involved. Hope that's not a sticking point. Good luck and hope you aren't waiting too long.

Ironically they have checked the paperwork and asked me for the fee via email this evening. Now just got to wait for the courts verdict 🤞

Can I ask what leverage you lose if you are divorced before the financials are agreed?

Catbustotoro · 04/02/2026 20:51

Oh good! I just got the letter to say it's been assigned to a judge, so maybe it'll be sorted soon!

Oh yes, mine came back less than a week after being assigned to a judge.

Good to know consent orders are being quick - mine was too 3 years ago.

DPs mediation broke down ~3 years ago, there was, then was faffing for a year for her to agree vague terms, then another year to get an AV, there is now more negotiation following the AV!!!! His still-not-ex wife takes about 6 weeks to reply to each solicitors letter!!! Who knows he might be at consent order stage this year. The ironic thing is, she left him 7 years ago and her "new" bloke has all but moved into the FMH so gawd knows why she's dragging this all out, they are practically at parity with the AV and she's not short of cash as has a new merc and swans off on holiday regularly!!

Good luck with speedy consent and then final orders all of you!
