How do you pick a solicitor?

In Scotland. I don't know where to start. I want to get some kind of free cosultation to begin with as I have no idea what I am doing. What do I need to look for? Feel lost.

i used a recommendation from a friend. Word of warning though - I was told the free consultation could not go into specifics of your case more general advice.

I didn’t, I did the processing myself, the only thing solicitors do for standard procedure divorces is extract cash from both sides. Obviously there’s circumstances where you need representation but for most people negotiating with your stbex will save both parties thousands

I wish I could have done it myself (I would indeed have saved thousands). But that is not suitable for everyone, especially if you are fleeing abuse and/or your husband or wife dies not want to get divorced.

I'm embarrassed to admit I chose my solicitor because I liked her attitude. Would I choose her again? Maybe, I don't know.

Having zero knowledge of how it worked somewhat hampered me.

Agree with PP that word of mouth is probably best.
